First of all, just to get any misconceptions out of the way up front, it's my understanding that when two players' golems fight, alignment changes for both sides. For two neutrals, the attacker gets pushed toward evil and the defender gets pushed toward good. For people already off-center, and of opposite alignment, they each get pushed a little further in their respective directions. I'm actually hoping that isn't true, but if it is, it's got problems for a couple reasons. First, it's unfair to a given target that he can do nothing but sit around and get attacked and still have his alignment shifted for him. That's essentially saying that, for example, someone is evil because good people beat him or her up. (Insert Snape reference here.) Second, there's the matter of provocation. Kick the sleeping dragon, and no one's going to blame the dragon if you get barbecued. If someone attacks me, am I particularly good or evil if I attack back? Once conflict's been initiated, there shouldn't be more alignment changes from later conflicts. There should instead be an entry on the players' "shitlists" indicating enemies. Case in point: I'm trying out a new golem, so I attack someone. I become neutral with evil tendencies. That someone retaliates, and becomes neutral with good tendencies. Later that person attacks me six times in a row, and stays neutral with good tendencies. I retaliate six times myself, not even causing damage or getting XP since her golem was all but destroyed, and yet I find myself suddenly Dark. There's a discrepancy here. |

I was wondering that myself. Of course it might explain why so many people are shooting up on the 'Evil Leaderboard'. Not having any idea how the coding works, but would setting up some kind of 'alignment neutral' counter that would get tripped for 24 hours or so, where counter-attacks wouldn't impact alignment be possible? Or does it get to difficult to target it to individual mages? |

I think I'm one of those who attacked you... xD There seems to be a big hump to get over to get on the evil/good path. But once you're on it, it seems like you can move through the categories pretty quickly. I know that I try only to attack/be attacked by those with evil tendencies or who are downright evil - and that's proven my 'pure heart' :-) |

I'm fairly certain that the defender's alignment is not shifted at all. If two completely neutral people fight, the attackers alignment is shifted in a random direction slightly. In your case, your alignment went evil. The guy chose to retaliate, so attacking you (an evil person) made him good. Going back and forth like that makes your alignments keep going farther and farther. However, as to the suggestion to make retaliations not affect alignment at all, why would you want that? I'm not against it at all if its optional. But I just don't understand why you'd want it. Is there some benefit to staying neutral that I'm not seeing? |

Actually game-wise, as of right now I don't think their is a difference 'tween good or evil, outside of the leader board. Of course that may change once spells, weapons, and clans are figured in. |

Being on the leader board seems to be something to avoid, since being there means everyone knows your name and can conveniently check and attack you. I notice attacks on me have gone way down after I dropped off the leader board. Though considering I was only level 2, I was surprised to see myself on it at all. Does one get on the boards because of large short-term alignment changes? Or did it happen because there aren't that many people so far? If it's because of the volume of change, should there be a gamewide-visible change of status for two players just because they constantly battle each other? If there ever is a benefit to extreme alignments, this would seem like a power-levelling exploit. |
