Dear TOMU,

You have now enjoyed two days of attacks and watched the fall and rebuilding of numerous walls. You've managed to take out some precious golems. All without retaliation.

ADV is a defensive clan, with no desire to attack. We have suffered your blows graciously and without complaint. This is hereby a request to cease your attacks upon us.

Sincerely

Loru Pegga

Dear ADV,

As of this post, ToMU is under orders to temporarily cease fire. In order to end the war, we of the Magisterius University wish for an apology for the second and third of our given causes. Please open lines of diplomacy with Lady Yami Kuronue in order to further this process.

An apology? Why demand that in the open forums? There were only hurtful things said about us, none other. A more useful thing would be an official ambassador to hang out in the interclan conference room. Maybe that isn't sufficient ego-balm...

Meh, war ending is sadness, I'd just about limbered up my golem-strategerizing muscle.

Very well then.

I apologize for you not receiving a response. I have responded to every and all messages that I receive (having been near the top for a while, I got lots of questions from new magi) and cannot conceive as to what happened to your reply. I truly believe I did reply, and yet you say you received none. Thusly, I have shot my messenger camel and have sent the butchered carcass to NWO for their sulfuric fire pit and consumption, less it goes to waste or its corruption be spread among my own clan. I figure their dark hearts can stand the foul message-eating spirits within. Alas since the camel shop is closed, I will rely upon llamas from now on. Should you or anyone else desire a reply from myself or any other clan, politely send another message asking if the first one was received. Messenger animals may have to pass through the Southmount and are likely to become a Mountain Giant's lunch.

I apologize for the vagueness and tone of my message asking that you request your members (one in particular, to which I was intending to semi-protect by remaining anonymous) to stop pounding a low-level magi into the ground repeatedly. It was my hope that something broad would have the happy consequence of preventing other members from making the same innocent mistake and depleting this realm's population of skilled magi. Nothing can be more discouraging for someone starting out than trying to build up a little shack in the woods only to have it destroyed every day by the equivalent of a regiment or two of the Dimitrian Republican Guard. Add on top of that my repeated and subsequently futile attempts at assisting the target in such a way that did not appear, and my ire was raised to a point where it came across poorly in word.

Sincerely,

Loru Pegga

Original post:

Your, ahem, apology has been received and is under consideration.

September 11th, morning:

After a meeting of the executive faculty council of TOMU, we have decided unanimously that your words show more sarcasm then actual regret. We have tried to give you a chance to end this war, as we have no real interest in fighting you. However, having given you the chance, we feel that you have once again spurned the very nature of diplomacy. We are not exactly satisfied, but neither are we surprised that your view of an apology bears so little resemblance to the ideal.

Because your so-called "apology" was just as disrespectful as the behavior that necessitated it, you have until midnight on Friday to issue a real apology that demonstrates an understanding of the underlying issues. Know, however, that for each disdainful message you send us, our standards rise; if you continue to deride us at every turn and refuse to take us seriously, you will rapidly pass the point where an apology will suffice. As you have suggested a discomfort with the public nature of this request, you will be permitted to fulfill it in private; however, should our messages mysteriously vanish again, we reserve the right to continue this publicly.

If you have any real interest in negotiation, please have an authorized negotiator to contact us for directions to our IRC-based conference room. I trust by the copies of forum posts I have received that you do know the mechanics of contacting me, though the substance and intent seem lacking. I hope your communication skills, and the speed of your pigeons, improves.

I requested an apology in order to spare your Clan the results of your disrespect and got sarcasm, facetiousness and self-righteousness in return. Guess that's what I get for trying to give people a chance to do the decent thing.

EDIT: [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/facetiousness- as per request]

I see you are all quite bored, and peace obviously is not one of your priorities. Pegga apologized, and it felt like a sincere apology to me. It's a shame you can't see that. I am growing weary of this petty feud.

In the names of the immortals I condemn thee, how can you possibly think such a matronly facade could be deemed acceptable? Apparently my left-side toenail clippings possess more tact than you, and there's definately a reason why I'm not permitted to handle negotiations, no matter how skilled I may be. Can't you recognize when someone is trying to give you an easy out of a conflict you cannot win? You make me despair of humanity...

And the fact that you're one of the ones that got hit the most has nothing at all to do with your attitude, I'm sure.

Heh, If I were a betting man, I'd put my money with ADV on this one. I suspect that if they decide to crack some heads a few TOMUans are gonna regret it.

That's a losing bet right there. Hope someone took it.

TOMU, I am VERY sincerely sorry you did not get a response to your message to me. I honestly have NO idea what happened to it. I felt I had to discuss it with the clan, but we've got people spread out of at LEAST a 24 hour set of time zones. I honestly believe I replied after that (short to me) time, and to MAGIER as well who messaged me within the same time period. I have no idea what really happened, and I'm sorry that you didn't get a response.

For the second part, I'm sorry I was curt with you about the attacks I was trying to have stopped. I've explained my reasons behind why I didn't call out the individual, which you take as arrogant and condescending. I'm sorry it comes across like that.

Sincerely sorry,
Pegga

The messenger pigeons were lost due to natural causes (i.e. hawks and inept hunters)

We have had the same problem within our clan, where messages were not received.

Aww, and I was looking forward to joining the pool. :( But the point that we can influence is valid. So I hereby suspend my pool-joining aspirations until the next one that doesn't involve ADV.

This might make masterslug Muelsfell's unofficial bookie. Maybe if he relocates his workshop to Zion's Reach? :)

In my defense, I have not opened my mouth yet, so my "attitude" had nothing to do with the attacks thrown at me. I just think you guys may be attracted to shiny things,...kind of like how a crow is. Not saying you guys are crows or anything. Too few feathers.

As I'm sure the entire realm is waiting with bated breath for further news, I'd just thought I'd mention that I've sent Pegga a message with the intent of bringing this whole affair to a close. In order to allow us both to speak without censor, I'm hoping to move the actual discussions to private messages, rather than cluttering up the boards.

In an only vaguely related note, I am not sure whether I think Sconibulus should be punished for predatory market practices, or rewarded for taking money away from those foolish enough to believe those are real starter flesh golems he's selling.

I think rewarded, because I enjoy rewards.
Also, I'm kind enough to buy it back if I get a message before spending my ill-gotten gains, and I always hold onto them for at least 24 hours after receipt just to make sure.

Although they haven't really been selling recently, maybe people have wised up.

Are they advertised or named to imply that they are starter golems?

Last I saw, his market additions were named 'Homunculus (LVL 1 Flesh Golem)' so it appears at a casual glance to be a starter.
