So right now, the only benefit of researching past level 1 in any flavor of golem is the ability to build advanced golems and parts (correct me if I'm wrong). How about if this research also lets the magus use fewer resources to repair lesser-level parts? For example, if a magus researches Flesh 2, then repairing Flesh 1 parts could take say 75% the resources as normal, while repairing Flesh 2 parts takes the same amount. Then, when the magus gets Flesh 3, repairing Flesh 2 parts drops to 75%, while repairing Flesh 1 parts takes 50% the resources as normal. And it wouldn't affect repairing other type parts, and wouldn't affect the resources or time needed to build the torso/parts in the first place.

Even though I pulled the numbers out of the air, anyone else think this may work? I can rationalize it by thinking that a magus who knows more about the material would be better able to maintain simpler products of that material. It would also keep lower-level golems and parts as an option.

I think that higher levels of golems should also have better stats.

I'm not talking anything groundbreaking here, but if a level two flesh golem is going to be considered the same level as a level 1 bone, they should be closer to each other than they are now. Maybe a few bonus points to strength, movespeed, and a small defensive bonus.

Or even give you just a pool of points that you can add to any stat of your choice (just throwing numbers out, you could receive 10 points per golem level). This would allow for a little more customization of golems. i.e., people could do different things with the points. They could either distribute them equally for a balanced golem, or put them all into defense and be a crazy tank guard, or even put all into strength and be an unstoppable killing machine.

Hmmm... The only trouble I can think of with this is that until now, people splitting research up between each other have been able to receive all the benefits of their peers through cooperation. I think that's at least vaguely important to the fun of this game, that you can have everything without being good at everything as long as you make a few friends who can help you.

I should rephrase what I said.

If, at any time, you come into possession of a golem that is above the level of one, for each level it is above one you receive X stat points to add to stats of your choice.

So if you don't make the golem it's not like you dont get the points. Points chosen won't carry over to other people if you choose to sell it (though they will still have the points, just they'll be able to add them to stats of their choice as well). Also, you can make many golems of the same type and level and put the stat points into different stats. So if i wanted to make a bunch of level 5 iron golems, i could have one balanced, one as a tank, one as a raider ect.

Ah.

What you're talking about then is something that would be good. The original thread idea is not so good, I think.

As it is, the 25 hit points you get for making your Golem level 2 instead level 1 isn't worth it for most applications. Some real stat changes would be great, and making them customizable would be even better. :)

Wait, which original thread isn't a good idea? Mine? Well... phoo! [pout]

Seriously, whose idea do you not like, mine or Poseidon's (first phrasing of his) idea?
