I was attacked but was unable to return the favor because it says they are too far away and I need a compass.

That's not a bug. You cant travel long distances till you buy a compass (like it said). Go look in Rildesjan.

Right, but the 2nd part of the message says unless they attacked me and then I can follow the trail.

XXX's workshop is too far away! You would need a compass to explore or fight in such a distant area (but if XXX attacks you, you will be able to follow the trail back to return the attack).


Is there a time limit for retaliation? I was attacked yesterday just before midnight and tried to attack back this morning.

There is no time limit. Once they attack, you can attack them again no matter how long ago it was, with or without a compass.

Finally found and squashed this bug. Basically the combat page was not giving you the buttons to attack even though the combat mechanics were set correctly to allow the attack.

Please let me know if it remains a problem.

It works now. Unfortunately I assumed that fighting a golem that had no head and 1 arm would mean it would be very inaccurate and probably rarely hit. Sadly, that was not the case and I think I may have just doomed myself to having to restart. :(
