Something had happened.
Over the preceding weeks, the normally frazzled and stressed-out Ambassadrix had slowly, subtly, yet steadily perked up. Her exhaustion at the start of the NWO war had not only vanished with her taking her vacation time, but she'd improved since her return to where she almost floated on air walking down the street. It was apparent to every diplomat she greeted, every magus she waved to on the street, that she was not only in better mental health, but even - dare I say it - happy.
So why now, a week since the last TOMU council, was she curled up in a tavern in Darghelm, nursing a large ale and looking glum as all get-out?
OOC: Anyone feel free to approach and strike up a conversation - odds are if you're important in your clan I know who you are, and if I don't know you I'm probably willing to meet you.

White-haired kid on cleaning duty. Gangly, about the sad girl's age.
The tavern common area has about six tables, in two rows of three. Each can seat about four, then there's the stools at the bar, and one table just behind the bar for people who want a bit of privacy. There are doors on each side and a big bunch of windows out front. Kitchen's in the back, along with the stairs up to the rooms, but you've got to pass through the bar, on the opposite side from the private table.
The pale kid is working his way over to the girl. He'll strike up a converstation if she's really alone, but at least one of the other drinkers looks ready to throw up if one of her friends walks in. Bartender's a little hung over, so he's not going to volunteer for converstation. Point of fact, if anyone's feeling chatty he'll either call Granny from the kitchen or look to one of the part-timers for help.
(OOC where are you sitting, what time of day is it, are you dressed as a diplomat/official, and is there a golem or something available to give you a lift home?) |

Yamiko, dressed in casual attire today, is still easily distinguishable - with all the diplomacy TOMU does, her face is quite well known. She's also known for her erratic hair colors - today her pink locks have been cut shorter and dyed black. It's a bit early in the afternoon to be drinking, and she's left home without her normal bodyguard, a bronze golem she calls Viktor, though knowing her clan he won't be too far behind.
Yamiko raises a hand in greeting to Elsworth, but is quick to say, "I'm off duty, write me a letter if you're on official business." |

"Official business?" is a completely in character thought.
So is wondering if this is a dingy enough inn that no one will notice if I don't clean as hard, or a nice enough inn that it doesn't really need cleaning while I listen.
(OOC: is this a close-to-university inn, or are you "slumming it" someplace where you don't expect to see anyone you know personally?) |

Elsworth gestures to the barkeep and a drink is brought over.
"Of all the taverns, in all the towns, in all the world, you walk into mine... I admit I am curious to see you here, looking this way... It seems unlike you...

Yamiko narrows her eyes a little. "What's 'e been telling you? It's all lies, I can prove it!"
Suddenly a little more aware of her surroundings, she blushes. "Er, you know. I've interacted with him in a purely professional capacity. Nothing but respect for the man as a leader and all that. I'm just a little tipsy..." |

Yamiko groans a little, turning her head to one side so she can speak clearer.
"Time... wonder if anyone's managed to bottle that yet." She attempts a weak chuckle but leaves off half-way through. "If I could just hate him... Bah. I'm sure you're bored to tears by my misery." |

Yami's eyes light up. Was there a SM in the realm, she wonders to herself, that didn't have secret tricks up their sleeves? Still, the prospect of new research intrigued her - perhaps it could be the key to a breakthrough in her own research.
"Only if it's not a portion of your own anatomy," she teases, with a wink. |

Elsworth frowns for a moment... "Oh..." He blushes alittle...
Slowly he pulls his hand out of the pouch and turning it over reveals a tiny golem made of out gemstones standing on his hand. It waves at Yami.
"The use of gemstones in Alchemy got me wondering and while larger gemstone golems are incredibly fragile, this little thing is..."
Elsworth drops the golem on the table, it bounces and then stands up and looks around.
"Surprisingly durable..." |

| Yami's eyes light up. "You got mini-golems to work? How did you solve the power issu-- oh, of course, gemstones won't catch on fire so they can get hotter, but.. wow. I should have thought of that - Sconibulus has been working on them for ages. Won't he be stunned to know he's not all he thinks he's cracked up to be... may I see?" She holds out a hand for the golem, fascinated. A golem made of pure gems! And a minigol at that! |

Yami lifts the small golem, holding it up to the light so she can examine the sparkle. She holds it closer to her face then, peering at the intricate craftsmanship, a look of pure joy and wonder crossing her face. Distraction succeeded; it's clear she's in her element as she examines the strange new creation. Yamiko's sort of always been a Magus first, Ambassador second, with Woman falling third on that list - her love life is happy to slip into the backseat once again as she beams at the creation.
"Hullo there, little guy, aren't you a beauty?" OF course she doesn't expect it to answer, since golems don't usually think for themselves, let alone speak, but she can't help addressing the humanoid creation the way naturalists often talk to their subjects. Last Edited: Oct 17, 2008, 7:49 am |

Though our mutual, er, friend, seems to have perfected the art of prefabricated vocal recordings inside golems so he can manage multiple workshops at once and none the wiser... seems everyone has their special projects these days." |

"Eventually I'll probably publish a paper or something like that. D'you know, if the Chancellor resigned I'd be a shoe-in for SM?" |
