Elsworth laughs... "Confidential is it... Oh well..."
"Come Child!" The mini-gol turns to face Elsworth and starts walking.
"Tiritus suggested the name when I was carving it. I also believe I have perfected a much simpler, powersource for thses, so I believe precious metals could be the next step..."

Yami nods, her elation fading a little. "I don't do power research any more than I have to. I learned how to make a decent voidstone in college and never looked back. Hell, if I didn't work with exotics I'd stick to clay tablets."

"I've found there just isn't enough time in the day to research all I want to know, expecially with the other tasks I have. But as a sculpter, I have to keep my eye and hands in practise."
Elsworth smiles...
"Come by my workshop soon, I might have something..." Elsworth picks up Child "to give you... your clan as a gesture of good will."
Elsworth stands up and gestures to the barkeep again.
"Stay as long as like, Yami and may good fortune shine upon you."

Yami smiles, giving a wave. "Thanks for distracting me, Magistrate. Have a good day." She sits back a bit, half-closing her eyes, both hands on her mug, taking a deep breath or two to hold onto the calm and tranquility Elsworth's toy has given her. A calm center in the midst of a tempest - isn't that one of the first lessons she learned at the University? She mentally chides herself for letting her emotions get away from her so obviously.

Darghelm was always an interesting place to visit. Everyone seemed to gather in the taverns there to talk and to drink. Shan also went, to listen and to watch. While any information he might pick up could be valuable, he did it mostly just out of curiosity.
Shan was currently sitting in one tavern, with half a glass of fresh water in front of him. His attention had been shifting among the various conversations in the room, but Yamiko and Elsworth happened to catch his focus. After Elsworth left, Shan considered talking to Yamiko. He changed his mind upon realizing he had nothing to say. But changed his mind again when he remembered that he never said anything, which was boring. But then...

Shan kept thinking himself in circles like this for several moments before suddenly noticing that he was rather obviously staring straight at Yamiko. His mind froze as he desperately hoped not to have triggered an awkward situation.

(OOC: the awkward situation is that according to IRC, Yamikuronue has already roleplayed a week forward in time on the Magisterius University forum)

(OOC: If Archduchess Yami would kindly close this thread so the next one could start, now might be a good time to make some announcements.)

(OOC: No worries. Nothing here is likely to conflict. For the purposes of this thread, Yamiko is still in TOMU clan.

And I'll make announcements when I'm damn ready ;P)

Yamiko looked up, blinking at Shan. "...can I help you?"

Recap of things from my perspective. When Elsworth said "Of all the taverns, in all the towns, in all the world, you walk into mine... " I rolled my eyes and went over to clean up beer and pretzel vomit on the back middle table.

But when the barkeep heard Yami say this though: "men are bastards, and men of the church even more so." The male bartender gave me the "don't leave me alone here" look and I moved up a row. I was still wiping tables down, but I was ignoring the ones farthest from the bar where Yami and Elsworth were sitting.

I made a slight twirling motion with my finger, like the sign for "kooky/crazy/screwloose." Except I did it over the table, meaning "Mix the drinks up." This didn't sound like a beer problem to me, it sounded more like a wine/sweet cocktail issue. At minimum it sounded like honey lager, and I know we had a beer that used cocoa in the brew.

The barkeep caught my meaning as Elsworth gave his response, but as Yami started shouting, he made a slight pushing away motion under his chin. Like the token gesture made to turn down second helpings of pie at holiday dinner before someone offers an extra scoop of ice cream. "They don't want more right now," he motioned, and he was hungover and in no shape to coax anyone.

I shrugged.

By this point, most of the patrons had recognized the patrons. The die-hard gossip hounds either stayed put or went to tell their friends about the high ranking clan members in the bar. The drunks were either too drunk to care or notice, but when the State Alchemist mentioned showing his latest project, the pub snackers and anyone sober enough started to leave.

I discreetly moved closer to the fire-extinguisher and the barkeep moved surreptitiously towards his cricket bat.

The small animal runs around making a mess, and the big animal runs around making a bigger mess trying to catch it scenario didn't make us relax when we saw the mini-golem. If anything, the bartender was more nervous, especially when he saw the thing drop, bounce, and be called "suprisingly durable..."

"Barkeep? Get me the bucket and rag, I think the windows could use fixing up in a minute." Actually, I was hoping that we could trap the little fellow humanely under the bucket, but the prospect of knocking it out the window and into the street calmed the barkeep down. He tends to favor simple, brute force solutions when he's hungover. Chatty drunk, though.

In any way, he was happy to see the little amateur piece leave his bar, and since the girl had calmed down, I got up from "polishing the barstools" with a snort and went to "wash the windows." I stayed near the closing sign, but apparently the recent scare had "sobered" him.

Pouring himself a cup of coffee with a smile on his face, he was once again turning into the fun bartender he'd normally be if yesterday hadn't been a wedding feast. Ulvanian Wedding Feasts tend to involve a lot of obscure relations and drinking, so I was never sure if his aunt's sister-in-law's cousin was getting married or invited him, only that he was "trashed" the next day and I hadn't been "trained" to pour drinks yet. Coffee this late in the afternoon meant he'd still be up when the evening bartender came on shift. Which meant he'd probably be hungover again tomorrow...

(OOC: Ah. My mistake, I suppose. Seems my timing could have been better. I still need to debug myself a bit. Oh well. Onward!)

"Um, no, I don't think so...Or am I wrong? Maybe? Can you help me?..."
Shan gave a quick shake of his head, trying to regain his focus.
"Sorry-Sorry about that. I was lost in thought. I really need to get a map for that."

That was poorly done, he thought. Eh, no turning back.

Yamiko blinked at this strange stranger, struggling to remember who he was. Oh, right - nobility from one of the smaller clans. Poets? Phoenix? Long Arms, that was it.

"...right, well, if you figure out what intrigued you, let me know."

"...yeah..."
Shan shifts his attention back to his drink, taking another sip.
He should probably just leave things at that...

Yamiko rubs at her temples. Great. Was there anyone in the realms that wouldn't know her shameful secret by morning?

"Er... it's not that interesting. Not the kind of interesting that needs to be spread around, if you get my drift...?"

Shan nods in understanding and agreement.
"Ah, alright, I see. I missed a few details anyway."

Shan takes another drink from his glass before continuing.
"So, I've noticed you around before, but we haven't actually met, have we? My name is Shan."

Yami smiles, tiredly, her diplomat face slipping into place, the polite yet less than sincere smile.

"Hi, I'm Yamiko Kuronue, Ambassadrix Plenipotentiary for Magisterus University. I actually head up the whole external affairs department, but mostly I do ambassador work myself and delegate the rest of it."

Shan smiles back on reflex.
"It's good to meet you, Yamiko Kuronue. I'm sorry for bothering you."

Shan is abruptly reminded of why he rarely speaks, when he realizes he has nothing more worth saying. He pauses and takes another sip of water, while he considers all the other things that weren't worth saying and tries to improve one of them.

"Hm... I've heard people complain before about the pain of a broken heart, and I can't help wondering why they make hearts so fragile. And having a heart of stone is supposed to be a bad thing.
...but then again, I could be horribly wrong and just don't know what I'm talking about."

Yamiko's bitter laugh bounces off the cup before her. "Craft me one that works and I'd test it for you." she says, darkly. "I'm through with love and men."

"I see. I haven't found much of a use for either, but they do tend to make the world more interesting. It sometimes seems like the only things that drive people forward are love and money. Everyone working and fighting for what amounts to nothing. It's actually silly if you can stand back far enough."
Shan gives a half-hearted chuckle, then giggles at his own pathetic humor, and then can't stop laughing at himself for several moments. He found laughing for no reason was strangely funny.

Yamiko manages a smile despite herself, looking away. "..it's so wonderful, being in love. It's like a drug - it sucks you in and makes you happy while destroying your life."

"Mages in love," the busboy thought as he wiped the windows, "is there anything more absurd?"

"Mages are constantly striving to know, and to use what they know to fix things, improve them some way or another," he shook his head with a smirk, "But when you're in love, the one you're smitten with is perfect in your eyes. You wouldn't change a single thing about them, and what you know all you need to know about them."

"Supposedly..." he looked back at the girl.

"Supposedly you can find anything else you need as you spend the rest of your lives together. But "happily ever after" isn't about life, but about one perfect moment, frozen in time. Nor is it any place for a magus..."

His reflection stared back at him like an accusation.

"A mage is devoted to amassing knowledge," he slapped soapy water on the window, "not memories."

The window was clean. It had always been clean and he wasn't in the mood to be putting on an act anymore. He dried up and put the bucket back on the bar.

"I'm going on break." he told the bartender. In his jolly mood, the bartender didn't care about a little insubordination. (his character, and the evening-shift bartender coming in soon, are both open if anyone wants to RP but can't quite introduce their own character.)

He turned to the girl. "Do you think you can devote your life to discovering the secrets of the universe and have it just move aside because you decided to devote yourself to someone else?"

Yamiko looks at the odd guy and his odd statement, blinking a few times. "Um.. I'm sorry, I must be more tipsy than I realized, can you maybe elaborate?"
