So, it seems that the 'best' way to defend your workshop is a little unintuitive nowadays. Putting a big iron golem up front seems to be the standard idea, and while the cost/golem level of the Iron seems to imply that's the best idea, really, I'm starting to thing it's not. Its damage output is not as good as several of the golems below it, since it doesn't swing very often, and doesn't do more damage per hit than many other lower levels. The extra couple of points of resistance to attack also don't stack up well against the 20+ points of damage everything but a flesh golem does now. Plus, the attacker gets LOTS of exp for attacking you, you get little. Same goes for Stone golems The other defensive options you have include : A glass golem - Seem to be a cheat right now, they're far too good, even for the cost of construction. A bone golem - Do great damage, seem to be reasonably hard to hit. Certainly can't take a lot of damage, but the price is very right. Also, because it's low level, it may dissuade an attacker because they won't get as much XP from attacking. A flesh golem - Bad idea, their damage output is pathetic. On the other hand, if you have resources to burn (and are essentially following the "No Golem" strategy below) it seems like a fine idea. No golem - Seems to be the strategy many players who like to mess with others use. Put nothing out there, keep your money/secondary resource levels below that allowed for your hidden room. Requires more active management, but many people won't bother attacking you, since they just waste motivation to get primary resources that flood the market anyway. Almost no golem - As an addenda to the above, you can also put out a golem with no arms or head. This means the foe can smash your golem up at will - but on the other hand, they get 0 XP, while you get XP. Good strat to use with the flesh golem approach. Fake goelm - Put up a golem, the scariest one you can. Name it something even more scary. Attach NO power source. Voila - an attacker will get through to your resources, probably stealing far less in terms of real assets than if they hit your golem, and they get no XP. Plus, your less likely to get hit in the first place. Of course, as soon as people learn you're using this tactic, they may raid you more - but combine it with the 'no golem' strategy from above, and now you're really screwing over your attackers. Anyway, it seems like the upper end - high damage resistance/slow to swing models are not really very good - against a golem that throws 25 points of damage per attack, say, having 5 points of armor vs having 0 points of armor mitigates only 20% damage, while being able to swing 2 to 3 times more increases your damage output way more than that.Last Edited: Apr 21, 2008, 7:38 am |

I attacked a bone golem with an iron golem and I did enough damage to remove 'A bone golem' from your defensive options. If someone wants to smash that, Its going to get crushed. Glass golems are currently over-ubered. I have to agree with the 'no golem' and and 'almost no golem' strats. Sadly this is just abuseable at the moment. With no workshop destruction leaving practically nothing out just counts as a good idea. The fake golem strategy won't work sooner or later as I believe Ark plans on you being able to more in-depth see what a defender golem has. In terms of armor and powersources But heres the kicker for iron golems. Send 'em in with little or no armor and a good powersource and they'll deal out loads of damage (but not as much as glass). And they still take less damage (unless they're fighting glass) I left out bronze/copper/brass because I don't know how much they do or how fast they attack and so on =P An iron golem remains a valid defense, Just don't armor it too heavily and give it a good powersource and theres no reason that you can't easily and quickly take down a bone golem. |

Well, the fake golem's not even viable anymore; eyes and powersource are now visible. Almost no golem's also looking worse; as the parts attached (and their conditions) are also visible. |
