Nanashi sat down at a corner table, setting down a small armful of books. He hailed one of the tavern wenches, in a low-cut blouse and short skirt, and wondered at Sissel's tastes in women, "I'll have a pot of tea and some bread and cheese."
The buxom girl responded, "Would you like some roast beast, good sir?"
"No thank you, I saw Masterslug wandering around earlier. And I know where the "roast beast" usually comes from. The bread and cheese will be fine," Nanashi smiled.
"Five coppers, good sir," the waitress called as she walked back to the kitchen, flouncing her skirt and swaying her hips suggestively.
Nanashi wondered if it was Sissel's tastes or the wench's intentions that led to the dress as he opened his book and began to read.

Nanashi was well into the second chapter of his book when he felt a slight breeze that blew a few pages of his book back and forth. Looking up to see the source of the breeze, Nanashi finds himself staring at a curious creature perched on the table before him. The creature's foot long body reminded him of a pear-shaped iguana with an extended neck and a long prehensile tail. The creature's body was covered with an even layer of small metallic-colored scales, but what really drew Nanashi's attention was the creature's brightly multicolored gossamer-like wings. It regarded Nanashi quietly with its golden cat-like eyes.
Thinking back through all the nature studies lectures and courses that he has attended, Nanashi excitedly concluded that the creature before him can only be a rare Fairy Dragon! As Nanashi hurriedly scrambles for his journal and stylus, he glances around and notices that the other patrons seemingly just give the dragon a fleeting glance while the wait staff seems to take no notice at all. Strange. I rare encounter like this should cause more excitement. As Nanashi ponders the seemingly lack of reaction, the dragon raises one of its arms and extends a single claw. Suddenly, Nanashi hears a squeaky, high-pitched voice in his head:
"Pull my finger."
Nanashi looks around briefly to try and locate the source of the voice. He glances back at the dragon who is now moving its arm in a hurried up and down motion.
"Pull my finger", said the voice again. Astonished, Nanashi realizes that it is the dragon that's talking to him.
"Pull my finger", he hears in his head a third time. Nanashi hesitantly reaches out and gives the dragon's paw a gentle tug.
POOF!
There is a bright flash followed by a small mushroom-shaped cloud of rising smoke. Nanashi instinctively jerks his hand back. When the smoke clears, the dragon is sitting there holding a small plate with a rather delicious-looking pastry on it. The dragon waddles forward and places the pastry in front of Nanashi. The dragon then takes a few steps back, spreads its wings, and launches itself into the air. With a few powerful strokes of its wings, the dragon disappears into the kitchen.
"What in the world?!", exclaims Nanashi. One of the wait staff, looking at his perplexed expression, nods towards the door leading into the kitchen,"That's Sissel. I guess he's playing pastry chef today..."

"A pastry...delivered...by a Fairy Dragon...who owns the inn..." Nanashi muttered, dazed and confused. He glanced at his cup of tea, suspecting its contents. Then he sat with his book open in his lap, a glazed look on his face as he stared at nothing.
Shaking out of his reverie, he mused, "Well, I guess that answers that question. Wonder if Sissel takes a cut off the wenches selling their 'favors'. Unless...no...they couldn't...would that even be physically possible?"
With another shake of his head, Nanashi turned back to his book and taking a bite of the delicious pastry. |

An average looking man walks in and tells the nearest waiter
"Roast beast, rare... Thanks."
Elsworth is looking rather weary and travel-worn, he has a quick look around the room and heads over to a table. |
