With the new 5 personal spells we are getting on the 5th, are we able to unlearn them, pick and choose new ones as they are implemented, or will we be stuck with them like the clan library choices?
Just trying to determine if it's worth testing out the new spells if I can't swap it with better ones later.

I'm betting there'll be a nice post in the announcements section telling us all about the spell system and answering many questions. Seems to me like we should wait until we read it before asking questions.

Sorry for expressing my concerns about the upcoming spells. Sure they may be answered in the announcment, but that doesn't mean WE can't ask questions now about them. I completely forgot providing feedback about what I would like to see was forbidden. I apologize for my grievous sin.

It is not that you have made a grievous error, just that nobody knows any more than you about the spells. All that can be said right now is conjecture and outright guessing. We simply need to be patient and wait for the 5th when Kep will institute the preliminary spells.

Ah but is not rumor mongering the right of the body politic? Is it not a right to dream unsaid dreams, and imagine the glory that awaits up yonder festive tide of the Magi's Winter Ball?

Emphasis is on "unsaid dreams" apparently. I'm personally guessing it'll be the same with spells as with the rest of the clan items. We didn't know which were going to be any good when we started out.

Though I don't want clans to have the regular option of erasing their choices, I still haven't ruled out letting clans erase their choices as a one-time only option after beta ends.

Spells on the other hand... I think I'd really like people to be able to play with them without fear of getting stuck with a dud. I'm considering making December "preview" month, and giving everyone a "wipe my choices" button on the spellbook page that can only be used until Jan 1st.

I'll let everyone know when the spells go live (or you'll just see the big red button on the spellbook page with the explaination). ;)

By the way, the spellbook page will let you preview what all spells do (even clan ones), but I'm also going to have to add spell descriptions to the Help Pages at some point.

Is this gonna be like the "previews" we get of what clan items do? Because the current preview standard seems to leave something to be desired.

It's settled. There will be a big red button for both personal spells AND clan spells (but only clan spells, not clan items), which will work anytime up until Jan 1st 2009.

I *may* consider a big red button for clan items once I get another batch of clan items ready for release. We'll see.

ah, finally they have arrived, thanks ark.

I definately think the big red button was the right way to go.

I've just have a play around with elephant strength turning my bone golem into an uber-uber golem, sadly now i have no more motvation to use it so i must go to bed, looking forward to having a play with the other spells tomorow.

Has anyone tried stacking spells? If so, which stack and which don't? Would it be possible to stack the 3 strength boosts with eachother? What about with a clan spell?

Strength spells just overwrite themselves.

Casting bulls strength over elephant's strength lowers the bonus to +10.

I cast Bull's strength ... +10. I cast Bull's strength, +0, but took the motivation. I cast elephant's strength, increased the additional +25 instead of +35.

I am interested to know if when Elephant's strength wears off, will Bull's strength still be in effect.

clan spells do not stack either, bless will not stack on top of elephant strength... which is a shame... 125 strength with 23% accuracy would be nice...

Spells don't stack, but replace. There were both balance and technical reasons for doing it that way. Also, I wanted people to make strategic choices when spell casting rather than going for an uber buff.

I've added some messaging to indicate when a spell is replaced during a casting.

It is a shame we can't stack the summon trap spells, or gain a swarm spell after we have learned the other summons.

My workshop is infested with rats trained to do my bidding! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!! >3

Dividing golem's spells into two categories defensive (Ice Resistance etc) and offensive (bull strength etc). Defensive spells can't be stack together and offensive spells can't be stacks either, but you can combine both.

hmm just an idea (;

They're all level 1, I believe, at least I think they were all there.

Field of Blades and Wall of Shadows are both level 2. Everything else is level 1.

Gah! Does the "cast spell on workshop" button have to be on *every* page? I just fired off a rat summon spell while trying to send a message because my brain went "hit the grey button" and suddenly there's two grey buttons.

Uh, no, actually I didn't even realize that wasn't working properly.

Spell controls on every page were supposed to be a Prem only option, with the default spellcasting controls only showing up on the Spellbook and Workshop pages.

Fixed.
