If you go through combat without reducing the wall by a level, at the end of combat any wall damage you did will replace the damage to your opponents wall, instead of adding to it.

I think I tried to explain it before and went on about it in some sort of wordy confusing way that made it sound random and situational, but it's worked that way since the introduction of wall HP. Thanks for reminding me, DD and CC.
