Which is better in a golem, a larger power source on the chest, or armor and a smaller power source?

I am specifically thinking of the starter golem; but it could be asked of other golems too.

I can either give it a clay tablet and armor, or a alchemical stone (for 100 or so more power), but no armor.

Depends what you are using the golem for.

Armor usually is better for all purposes, but putting a big power source and good eyes can allow you to one-turn-kill some monsters and not get any damage, assuming you hit first...

Powersources can also be placed in the abdomen. So stick your voidstone in the abdomen and stick 2 pieces of armor on the chest. Also if you haven't already done so, try to get his other flesh bits knocked off in combat and replace them with better golem parts.

yeah, I think you might even be able to put the powerstones in the pelvis. Maybe I imagined doing that once though.

I usually like to keep some armor on the chest... it's a pain to lose a golem to some lucky hits in one fight. If you're talking about weight, not slots, and are armoring up the entire golem, then it depends on how much repair costs you're willing to pay. Less armor = more repair costs.

Yes, Pelvis is an option as well for everything but an ouroborus, which must be equipped in the chest.

I think actually powersources up to level 2 can go in the pelvis, up to level 3 for the abdomen, 4 and 5 are chest only. I'm pretty sure I remember a complaint about not being able to stick a Fire Gem in the pelvis.

Just to confirm: the pelvis can hold up to a voidstone, the abdomen a fire gem and the chest can hold anything (slots permitting of course).

I've done so with my homonculus on the dust mummy (Level 5), though it's taken a while to bump up his strength for all the extra armour he holds. I went with Level 5 Iron for every part BUT the Chest so as to give me enough room to armour him as I see fit, and I went with an air gem in his abdomin.
Slap a good pair of eyes and some heavy armour on the chest and away I went.
Still haven't got the 1 hit kill yet, need better eyes.
Oh, and once you can get a spell, the elemental damage ones are incredibly helpful.

I send my homy against a lvl 5 with 60hp. Iron 5 parts on all locations, chain armor on the chest. No other armor. Improved Voidstone (clan item) and ruby eyes for those slots and a spiked chain in hand. +4 damage (so 3 str upgrades I think, I forget) and Bull's Strength. I 1-round the mob every time and take around 50-75 damage. Will probably up str another 10pts just so I can carry more loot.
