I've noticed that one of my golem's currently does not attack at an optimum level, basically he'll be fine for the first two rounds and then get between 0 and 1 attacks for the rest of the rounds. In fact, it gets absolutely no action on round 5. I'm pretty sure this is a new thing and may be related to the strength buff spells as I cast elephant's strength on it and loaded it with armour so that it has a negative capacity when it doesn't have a spell. I can understand a penalty for being overloaded (I don't actually know if one has been implemented), but if there is it seems to be carrying over even after I've cast elephant's strength on it.

Did you notice that Kep made a change to weapon combat so that the golem will prefer to use the equipped weapon than a fist? Could be a glitch or you need a stronger power source.

This is a completely normal thing. The way the game determines how many times your golem attacks is... wierd. It involves a random dice roll, a modifier based on the golem, a modifier based on the weapon which may or may not override the golem modifier, and then it somehow combines that with either the amount of energy you have left or the % of total energy you have left to determine how many attacks happen that round... at least as far as I can tell that's how it works.

In short: Your golem will get lots of attacks earlier when it has lots of energy, but when it runs out it will get fewer. This can be fixed by hooking it up to a larger power source.

I dunno, CC, I think this problem might go deeper than that. Panacea's been in almost as many fights as I have (Cause he's such a jerk. :P) and I think would have seen the trend if it were that simple...

I wish I had more to say. I have noticed some 'funny' energy drops before, but I've never taken the time to pin them down.

Yeah Coyne's right, my pvp jerkness :) means that I'm pretty sure this is separate from the normal decrease in attacks, the pattern is uniform, 1 round to close, 2 rounds of seemingly normal combat, then one attack for all subsequent rounds except round 5 which doesn't even give my golem an action (the defending golem's combat text is there but my golem gets a blank line).
Also, the golem is a level 2 bone golem with an air gem, so I'm pretty sure it's not the powersource.

Edit: I unloaded my golem of armour before casting elephant's strength and that seems to have done the trick, although I didn't hit the defender once in the last four rounds... but I'm willing to attribute that to the game engine and that I've only done one test.

Yes, there is a penalty for golems at greater than 100% capacity. Sorry, I should have confirmed that when I read this thread earlier. I'll add some extra messaging to indicate when a golem is having problems due to overweight.

I also doublechecked the capacity stuff, but didn't notice anything behaving incorrectly. Still, I'll keep an eye on it while doing other updates.

Ah, my bad. I figured the penalty for being overloaded hadn't been implemented yet since there was no messaging or mention of it. But, good to know.

Different issue with Elephant Strength:

My Homunculus has 84 pounds of carrying capacity left, yet I'm only looting about 40 coins and a few gold bars from the Blight Roach each kill. A couple of days ago, I was looting 100+ coins, 50 or so gems/bars each attack. Not sure if this is the 'overweight' bit or not.

Another related questionable point- I attacked Mijal yesterday, me with a bone golem, him with a level 1 clay sporting a fire gem. I'm not complaining really, but his golem only attacked once in 10 rounds of combat, and his wall spikes didn't work for the first round. I can forward the attack report if you'd like. As far as I know there were no spells involved, and I have attacked in the with the same setup on both ends before with more normal results. Maybe this is just a fluke, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

I made a small capacity tweak/correction on capacity. Let me know if that does or doesn't return your loot abilities back to where they were.

Working on adding overweight messaging now.

This seems to have happened again against Mijal, he had Field of Blades going both times, maybe that makes the difference, but he got no attacks after round 5 with a fire gem on a big clay golem. I'll forward a report, in case that helps.
Edit: Woops, he had a steam engine going this time, making it even weirder. Unless it was overloaded, but I doubt it.
Further Edit: After Dilt has creamed my wall with my level 5 iron out, I notice that as soon as the wall drops to level 0 the guard golem loses interest and stops doing anything.

Iaidan, have you noticed this only with a clan guard, the regular golem guard, or both?

The overloaded message should appear in combat now. Let me know if it appears when the "sick of combat" bug occurs.

Otherwise, I'm still trying to find out the source of the problem.

I've been having a similar problem when defending... my golem sits around and does not return any attacks apart from on round 1... got me very confused. Can post / send reports if needed...

Do you have any spells active on your workshop or golem when this happens? I've noticed that whenever I attack someone with the field of blades spell that they get two rounds of combat followed by a large blank space where there attack should be for all subsequent rounds. I've never attacked a golem with a spell cast upon it so I can't say whether it's common to all spells on defense or not. Alternatively, is the golem overloaded.

Interestingly my golem stopped attacking once the flying anvil it had cast on it - hit the other golem... it might be related I guess?

Is anyone seeing a message like "Your golem is overloaded and having problems with the combat" when attacking with these same golems that are having problems defending?

I'm having difficulties replicating this in testing, even with overloaded golems and defensive spells.

Maddening to find this one, heh! Let's attack it from another angle.

In what situations are you finding this problem NOT happening? Does it always happen with a specific spell or spells? Does it happen when there's no spell at all?

Is it ONLY happening to the defender, or does the attacker still get sick sometimes, too?

I think this might be an ancient bug, predating spells... it seemed to happen sometimes when one golem had longer reach than the other. I posted a bug then but I think it happened when the longer-reached golem closed to melee. The melee flag had been tripped, but the shorter-armed golem was out of range, so wouldn't get any attacks. As far as I can recall, I haven't seen it when a ranged weapon is equipped and a golem is on hangback, although I did once see a golem stop attacking for a round or three, then back up and fire, then attack normally again.

Hmmm really, I've never encountered this bug prior to spells. (Actually I've just looked at my recent combat reports and noticed that something like this has occurred at least once before, when a level 5 bone with the frost damage spell attacked my level 1 clay, no spell)
Primarily though, I have only seen this bug occur when the defending golem has flying anvil or when field of blades is cast on the defender's workshop. I'm relatively sure that each time the attacker also had a spell upon it. In contrast to Sconi's hypothesis, most of the times the attacking golem had the shorter reach.
I've noticed it doesn't happen when I attack a non-spelled golem ever and that it doesn't occur with the elemental resist spells.
I haven't noticed it happening to the attacker, but I've been careful not to overload my golem.

I just had three instantces of this bug. My golem had the thunder attack buff, the other golem had nothing, and neither did the workshop itself. My golem was not overburdened. I have the reports if you like.

EDIT: I should add that it was the other golem that just stood there. Three straight flawless victories against Iron 5 golems because they didn't even try to attack me. All well and good but bugs make me uneasy,
