Copper/Brass/Bronze parts should go back to at least 4/4/4 for base resists, if not more. Having exotic metals with weaker base resists than lesser materials (Clay, Stone, and Iron all beat the current 3/3/3) makes them effectively worthless-- they're much more expensive to repair and also require non-renewable resources, so there should be some benefit to using them. |

Just put on some armor. As you saw recently on the forums with glass, the base resist means nothing if you armor it. Plus they do nonstandard damage, so whoever you attack is gonna feel the pain. Edit: And i know that it was the speed with glass, my real point was that armor is good. And that these golems are more for busting down doors and taking names and all that fun stuff where you get to prepare as much as is necessary.Last Edited: May 2, 2008, 4:23 pm |

I'm not talking about the chest, I'm talking about parts. Arms, legs, et cetera. The damage isn't my point-- it's that brass and bronze are now weaker than clay. Makes it pretty pointless to do anything but make a torso, hack it to just chest, and then stick level 3 Clay on it. When level 3 Bronze is worse than level 3 Clay, something is wrong. |

4/4/4 is worse than stone/iron, so even then you might as well just use those. Not much difference. |

That's why I said "or better". At least getting to level 3 Stone or Iron costs some money to meet the reqs for research. Doesn't really matter to me in any case, the numbers just didn't make sense. |

Um, there's a reason civilization went from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age and not the other way around.... Iron (and later, steel) is a stronger metal than copper or any of its alloys. That being said, I agree there should be more benefit from using the exotic metals. Something like that they are more strongly enchantable in some fashion, or they have some sort of strong alchemical property that can be put to use. |

As this is a magical golem world, I do not expect the creator to be forced to adhere to metallurgical realities. I'm simply pointing out that the numbers don't make economic sense-- any "specialty" golem will simply be hacked to the chest and get basic parts added. If that's intentional for some sort of combat balance issue, so be it. Since materials conversion could be a useful money sink to keep inflation down (I know, not much of a problem right now, but maybe long-term), I figured I'd point it out. Ileazar-- I like your alternative suggestion very much, thank you. |
