Killing the practice dummy counts as a kill for this achievement.

It also seems to be one of the monsters for the Zoo one, not sure if it's supposed to be.

This is a little weird... it doesn't count as a stone golem kill. I wonder what kind of error could make it count as a monster only some of the time.

I managed to get the Zoo achievement without ever engaging the Straw dummy.

As a side note, being a non-premium account, that takes a LOT of time to do. (16 minute return times anyone?) :)

The World is My Zoo
Kill one of each currently live creature in the game.
Progress: 5 of 82

[Dummy level 5]
CSB07i-Palooka did 151 dmg while a practice dummy did 37 dmg.

You earned 0 xp.

The World is My Zoo
Kill one of each currently live creature in the game.
Progress: 6 of 82

[dummy level 10]
CSB07i-Palooka did 82 dmg while a practice dummy did 226 dmg.

You earned 0 xp.

The World is My Zoo
Kill one of each currently live creature in the game.
Progress: 6 of 82

So it appears that you can kill 81 creatures + the dummy and get the zoo achievement, but at least the dummy only counts once, so you can't kill 72 creatures + 10 dummies.

ETA: I've been reminded that the achievement isn't "fight every creature" but "kill every creature". With that in mind...

[dummy level 1]
CSB07i-Palooka did 50 dmg while a practice dummy did 0 dmg.

You earned 0 xp.

The World is My Zoo
Kill one of each currently live creature in the game.
Progress: 6 of 82

So yeah. Still not too exploitable.

I can't get my dummy to count as an animal. I know I hadn't killed it anytime recently, so I should not have started with it counted, and I'm currently at 81 of 82 monsters killed. I've killed it on a couple of different levels, and I'm definitely not getting that 82nd monster.

I just killed the dummy for the first time in a really long time, and it counted for death incarnate but not for the zoo.

Hmm, maybe it counts as a certain specific monster? Maybe the level 1 right next to your workshop? That might fix the discrepancies.

Certain levels of the practice dummy are just identical to certain monsters or golems. For example as I recall the level 8 dummy is a bronze golem. So maybe a certain level of the dummy is identical to a certain monster in that killing it counts as killing that monster for the achievements. Just a thought.

Edit: I'm essentially saying what Sconibulus said right above me, just expanding on it.

Hmm, do the summoned rats and wolf spiders from spells count for either of the achievements?

If so, it's gotta be the level 5 dummy, since that's what I used in my test... I don't fight many monsters, obviously. Off the top of my head I've probably hit... the giant, the black rat, the goblin bandit, maybe the half-golem abomination, possibly the... ogre? or the unicorn? since achievements came out. (hope that wasn't confusing, I just got up so I'm typing like I'd talk).

The summoned critters do count, but seem to be replicas of the critter they copy, as make sense. The reason I suggested the nearest monster is to get the 1 second return time... although that seems to be measured differently, other likelihoods include that it is monster#0 if there is one, or maybe #1, or whatever the default value is in the code.
