Ok, I have a level 2 Bone golem, with all lvl 2 bone parts, glass eyes, clay tablet, and iron studs most everywhere. If I fight a lvl 1 creature, I get 0 xp and some loot. If I fight a lvl 2 creature, I get the hell beat out of me, 1 xp, and no loot. There's no way to advance at this point, because if I try to get xp, I have to spend all my resources repairing a golem that only nets me 1 xp and no loot per fight. Is there something I'm just not getting?

Maybe try to use a level 1 body with level 2 parts. Or even a flesh level 1 body with level 2 parts. That might increase your xp. But I don't know it myself - that's a guess from what I read.

I think the trouble is the damage numbers for the golems have all been cut (Bone especially). I think Ark did this in preparation for the Clans release, and weapons. I imagine putting a sword in your golem's hand will make it much more capable of fighting higher level monsters.

What's happening is you're using the wrong golem for the job. Different golems have different strengths and weaknesses so you should choose golems to suit their strengths.

Flesh golems (particularly the homunculus): good for low level PVE combat; level 1 and some level 2's, depending on the particular monster.

Bone golems: good for general PVP, especially desert attacks.

Wood golems: OK at PVP. Their main advantage is no ranged penalty which will come into play when weapons come out.

Clay golems: The regeneration!!! If your workshop is located in a swampy area then a clay golem as a defense is great, especially since their huge carrying capacity allows you to stack on the armour. They're also used for PVE in swampy areas against creatures like the bog mummy or ogre.

Iron golems: Good as a base defense. People think twice before attacking an iron and even if they do it has buckets of hitpoints.

I haven't used the other golem types so I won't outline them.

Or at least better armor. Put a call for iron bands/iron scales on the market. Unless you want to go hog-wild and spring for iron plates (light, medium, or heavy). Although those will seriously cut down on any loot you get due to weight. Maybe prohibitively so, haven't run the numbers myself.

Just occured to me, maybe you should fight in a different area? I know my son has a tough lvl 2 in his starting area that is particularly resistant to damage. Once he bought a Brass Compass, that issue was solved.

Haftea, I will try fighting in a different area as soon as I finish work. I have the compass, but really wasn't sure what the use was, lol. I figured more attacks closer to home was better than a few attacks that I have to walk forever to get back from.

Panacea, thanks for that breakdown. I wanted to specialize in bone, I thought, but if it's only good for pvp then it's no good to me. Probably going to erase those researches and change to wood, I guess.

Tzadkiel, thank you so much for the information. It really helped.

Ok, traveled a little ways to the Cairnfields, and level 2 critters there are much easier than in the dungeon nearest my workshop. Still only 1 xp per trip, but at least it's a gain. Still using the lvl 2 Bone w/mostly iron studs.

and while it makes sense given some thought - it is not obvious at first glance.

If you have a level 2 bone golem, he has 3 slots in chest and head. One slot is your powersource. The next one is armor.

and the next one is armor ;)

Balance your weight and armor type as you need - I'm sure you will find a combo that turns dismemberment into something profitable.

I've been using a level two bone against the level four yeti with pretty good success. One thing almost as good as armor for your golem is better power supply/eyes. If you can gib a monster a few rounds faster due to more attacks, then that's that much fewer rounds you take damage.

Well, I haven't even found any critters above 2nd level, but will give it a shot if I see one!

I am having the same problem, well not so big... but upgrading my flesh golem level 1 to bone level 1 doesnt let me kill big critters because it doesnt do enough damage.
I got nice eyes and power source.

So i just need a clan weapon? can clan weapons be sold on the market?

If i use level 2 arms, will it hit stronger? or just get more capacity for armor? my problem isnt damage (yet)

One consideration is the type of damage the creature does. A bone golem of any level, for instance, has pretty cruddy defense against impact, although the iron studs should make some difference. Their defense against piercing starts higher. I was able to farm the Red Banded Wolf Spider in Yul's Marsh with a level 1 bone for 5 xp. That kept me going through several levels.

To answer Tarod's question: no, higher level arms don't hit harder. They just have more slots for armor or weapons.
