Earlier I attacked another magus' golem, in hopes of harvesting some eyes (and being, y'know, Evil). My golem beat the other golem by destroying its pelvis, and my golem got to loot his workshop. w00t!

So now his workshop is guarded by half a golem, still with its eyes and powersource, and I'm hoping I can attack it again for some easy pickings. No such luck-- my golem ignores his golem and heads straight through to loot the workshop. w00t!, but not what I was after.

I would like to see an option to attack a golem that cannot effectively fight back, to destroy it and/or to loot its gear. Or just an option to strip a defenseless golem and leave it intact (or at least without more damage).

And yes, I realize this request will come back and bite me in the tuckus. I don't care, it's fun!

If this happens people will just start to leave out iron golems with either nothing on or a parchment strip and some crappy eyes. They'll leave all the items worth anything on a golem in the basement.
Plus it will really screw newbies, they'll get all of their stuff jacked before they can get a different golem out.

Well, people do that anyway. On both counts.

I know people do that anyway, but this would make it much worse.

You mean better! :D Combat is a little on the harmless side right now. Making things a little more dire would be better I think.

It wouldn't screw over newbies, since they'll have newbie protection for a few days, plus most wouldn't have stuff worth stealing anyway. And FatherCoyne and Delano both make valid points.

No, i mean that everyone will do one of two things. One, leave nothing out and just count on thew hidden room and the reduction given by the wall to protect anything useful that they have. Two, they will make the strongest golem that they can, give it no armor, no eyes and an Aemaeth Parchment Strip. What good would it do to be able to steal one of those?
Plus newbies would get destroyed, they would probably come out of the protected period without another golem and then they would lose any items that they had.
As it is now people leave some things on their golems and you just need a little luck to destroy that part before the chest or abdomen or pelvis or both legs. Your way everyone would have an obscene amount of Aemaeth Parchment Strips.

@ deathpunk

If I'm reading the original post correctly, I don't think he means that you should add a "steal eyes and powersource" button when viewing another workshop.

I think he means that once you've blown it to bits enough to raid the workshop, yet not completely destroy the golem, you should get that option. If that's the case, I totally agree. So many times I'll attack someone to get their eyes and end up smashing the pelvis and losing all chance. It's pretty irritating if you ask me.

I understand what he's suggesting. In a roleplay perspective this would make sense, but I think it would be detrimental to many players.
As it stands now, if you see a flesh or bone with eyes beyond crystal, there's a good chance that you''l go for it. And there'd be a chance that you would get it and a chance that the golem would be crippled before it's head was destroyed. This works for the defender because it gives them a chance even if they are attacked by a stronger golem.
If you make the change it will hurt newer players and players that have researched further into eyes and power sources than golems.
But since I'm the only one that seems to be against this maybe I'm over-reacting, maybe people won't go after anyone with a weak golem out. Maybe this won't destroy any chance new players have of keeping decent items.
Whatever.
