A couple of new items are live: Dinzo coil - a new set of level 2 eyes at 11% made mostly from copper (for those finding glass hard to come by). Two varieties of chainmail armour starting at research level 2, which provide decent slice and puncture protection. Kep |

And you would do this while I've still got time left on my "job". *sigh* |

Hmmm. With the relative expense of the Dinzo Coil. (600 copper, 25 gem) Does it negate weather effects, darkness or anything neat like that? Or is it only the glass free version of the Crystal eyes (1% less). Just curious. After a test spin I guess it doesn't give any darkness advantages. A girl can wish her sparkly new items do more than advertised though. :)Last Edited: May 17, 2008, 1:19 am |

Chainmail provides defense against piercing weapons? Interesting design of chainmail, then... most chainmail has holes in it. Not that the armor value niche isn't valid; just that armor with a high defense against piercing, a medium defense against slashing, and a weakness to bludgeoning would seem to require more continuity and less holes. I'd generally describe chainmail as high slashing, medium bludgeoning, and weak to piercing; and ascribe the aforementioned characteristics to... kevlar, or something; a physically covering form of protection that nonetheless doesn't cushion against blows well. But perhaps I'm nitpicking. |

I think that Chainmail is perfect against piercing ... in the sense of the weapons or limbs used by Golems. It will not help against fine needles, but these usually do not a massive amount of damage, they could inject poison etc.. So Chainmail with high piercing resistance against Swordstabs, Lancestabs, Arrows, etc., medium slashing resistance agains Sword- or Axeslashes and minimal resistance against bludgeoning, since is is not rigid, makes perfect sense! ... just my 2 cents. |

really, chainmail prevents the edge or point, but has little to no protective value to the inertia itself. You will be injured, but not dead |

I'd argue the point, but it's just a flavor thing, so I'm not concerned. More worrisome is the balance on the Reinforced Chainmail. Compared with Light Iron Plate, it costs 1300 more Iron and 150 more money to produce, and yet it's only better by two in terms of slashing resistance... and is worse by 9 in terms of bludgeoning, and lacks elemental resistance entirely. I can't see any reason why you'd go with Reinforced Chainmail instead of Light Iron Plate. |

It's four less pounds? *shrug* You got me. A touch of elemental resistance would put it in line... Actually, a point or two in anything would make is just usable in the right circumstances. As it is, unless you know your opponent will have some pretty specialized stats... |

Endovior - We can agree to disagree, though as someone who has made her own chainmail and let someone go at it while I was wearing it - I assure you that I was purple but not bloody. One of the bulk and weight issues with chainmail is all the padding you need underneath it to even distribute the weight properly. While it is just my opinion, check out wikipedia for a brief discussion of it's value and why it was even invented in the first place. As to balance and game mechanics of reinforced chainmail - there I can't argue with you. :/ Besides - there seems something downright silly about an iron golem wearing chainmail |

I've tweaked the reinforced chainmail slightly for better puncture resistance. This will affect all new items as well as those already made. Kep |
