Other than indicating a higher level golem, what effect does the golem's size have?

Yes a golem's size is about reach, being able to hit enemies further out. If your opponent has better reach than you there is a chance he will get in a round of attacks before you can hit back.

To summarize, a golem gains slots for more equipment, as well as reach and more health on those parts, in exchange for a larger motiv cost, a larger initial investement, and less experience returned for combat. Considering that the xp is capped at +10 however, even a level 5 golem of any particular type can still get the maximum amount of experience facing some monster or other golem.

His question was size, not levels. The small/medium/large sizes used to control reach, but that's no longer the case. As of current game, reach is controlled by golem level, so now the golem size has no real known influences (if any).

It's more accurate to say that level controls size which controls reach but it comes out the same way. Levels 1 and 2 are small, 3 and 4 are medium and 5 is large.
