May I ask, if my assumption is correct?

For clan 2nd specilization items

Assumption 1:

Great hall level 1 = 1 slot
Great hall level 2 = 2 slots
Great hall level 3 = 3 slots
......
Great hall level 10 = 10 slots
......
Great hall level 20 = 20 slots

Assumption 2:

Great hall level 1 = 1 slot
Great hall level 2 = 2 slots
Great hall level 3 = 2 slots
Great hall level 4 = 3 slots
Great hall level 5 = 3 slots
......
Great hall level 10 = 6 slots
......
Great hall level 20 = 11 slots

No matter what you choose for your clan's second specialization, you get a secondary research slot every other level. It is the same for things you are able to research. If you are item secondary, you need twice the level as an item primary clan.

To clarify, it's every even level, you get bonus slots at level one.
