This is an issue I originally posted on the suggestions thread:
I've noticed that the ammo (crossbow bolts, specifically) can only be placed in/on the golem's head. Besides the obvious question "what has ammo got to do with the head?", this raises other, more practical issues, such as not enough slots for both eyes and ammo, for a smaller golem.
I believe there are more suitable and logic locations (arm, pelvis, leg or arguably, the off-hand or torso); however, I'm not sure this is a coding bug or an intended behavior, so I've posted this as a suggestion.

however, after trying to fight for thr first time using a crossbow-equiped golem (crossbow bolts were equipped, too), the game didn't recognize the ammo, stating that the crossbow is out of it. Given this, now I'm pretty sure it is a bug, so I moved the thread here.

You'd be amazed what ONE little number (a -1 to be specific) can do. This should be fixed as of a moment ago.

Ammo should not be attachable to a golem at all.

Instead, on the list of items near the bottom of the golem page, you should see the option to load weapons that require ammo. This will appear next to the unequip function, though you should be able to load a golem's weapons even if it's not on the worktable. This automatically picks the appropriate ammo if you have any.
