I the Motivation limitation makes this game draaaaag.
More Motivattion requires more XP.
XP is painfully slow to gain.
Killing monsters, working for the Guards, PVP all provide little or no XP.

What are the best (quickest) ways to gain XP?

Sadly, killing monsters or PvP is the fastest way. If you had a higher level golem, hitting the Clockwork Elephant next to you would be ideal for you with only a 1 sec return time. A Level 1 Iron golem (equiv to a level 7 creature)would let you hit it for 9 XP each time. Same goes for a Bone level 5. And it's much cheaper to repair. :)

edits: Almost forgot, but some armor and a good powersource (firegem or ouroboros) to pretty much give you a 6 mot (the minimum) cost for that as well.

Gettin yourself in a clan can help too. Clans usually have access to some nice lil clan items to make the hunting easier. As well as other clanmates who can build you helpful items like stronger powersources and eyes. And then those early levels should fly by ;P

Female Mountain Giant with Stone lvl 1.
The clockwork elephant is a very hard monster.

If you also want loot (money, addy, gems) from the giant, be sure to use an elemental buff or a weapon. Otherwise it's passing unlikely you'll kill it in the ten rounds.

I have failed to kill the giant maybe twice (generally at night) and all I use is a little bone 3 golem to fight him with just an oroborous as a power source. Of course the weapon I use helps probably... :)

Oh how I want a Clay Bone....

and this is just a regular bone 3.

Bane closes to melee with a mountain giant.

Bane uses its spiked chain and hits the left leg (78 dmg -- CRITICAL HIT!) and the abdomen (72 dmg -- CRITICAL HIT!).
A mountain giant topples, shaking the ground with the impact of its death.

an excellent way of gaining exp is to use a lvl 5 clay, i have one hip on each part and a cold res spell on mine, and attack caerula the frost dragon, if you lvl up your stables enough to have a 6 exp attack on it you will get half your motivation back in the form of salt pork and pistachio ice cream. and get 10 exp per hit, not to mention ice dragon scales
