From the Southmont, a rumbling was coming, a trembling of the earth. Animals could feel the vibrations and fled; birds took to wing lest they be crushed underfoot. The golems of TOMU were on the move.

By the time they reached town, magi - particularly those that had been present at the inquiry - could tell something was unusual. For starters, the leader of the pack was a copper golem - in TOMU style, she'd been endowed with false hair and clothing. TOMU's mages always were a little eccentric. Beside her was an iron golem, moving rather more stiffly than her fluid movements. Behind them were perhaps a dozen golems, almost all exotic - and two magi. How could a mere two magi control this many golems in battle, even if one of them was the Chancellor? Likely they were going to set up a war camp, and other mages would be following shortly after. This, of course, would mean a long, drawn-out encounter. Furthermore, it became painfully obvious that they were headed for Mottonsboroguh - or, rumours began to fly, St Alfred's Cathedral nearby, home of their old rivals, MAGIER clan. They had been the first to publicly form ties of goodwill against the arrogant priests - but they had also been the first and most public of the attackers in the first war. Had MAGIER violated their treaty with TOMU?

And why did Chancellor Kaelas look so worried?

And why was Alpha breaking into a run at the sight of them?

Standing above in the foothills Gordon Ironsmith watches, along side his Copper and gem, as the army of golems arrive at the town where the inquiry had just occurred. "This is a troubling turn of events," Gordon Grumbles to himself. "I wounder what this could mean?" Gordon waves his hand causing the light around his party to bend concealing them from view.

Alpha quickly reaches Kaelas and the two confer, no longer bothering to pretend that Alpha is merely a mindless tool. The golem seems to take the news rather... badly.

"There was a perfectly nice gate in that stone wall, Alpha" he notes as they leave the rubble strewn gap behind. "Less than fifty feet away. And I'm still spry enough to hop over a three foot wall anyway."

Alpha just mutters darkly to himself, then gives his father a hard look. "So, what's the plan?"

Kaelas smiles. Like he'd give anything away this soon. Or let on that he doesn't have a plan. Either way. Could be both for that matter. Sometimes, not having a plan is a sort of plan... or something.

Silent and quick it approaches the Man and his golem. It listens to their needless banter and continues to watch. The time is drawing near, wait, wait. It grows still. Not far away the mauled remains of a bronze golem lay, still warm.

The sun begins to turn red as it slowly sinks to meet the horizon.

"My oh my, this is getting quite boring." Gordon mumbles to his copper golem. Upon hearing its masters voice the massive sitting golem quickly jumps to its before almost losing its balance. "Sit back down before I have to fix you again!" Gordon growls.

Viewing the massive immobile display Gordon wonders what the point is to bring such an army of golems out into the public like this, and then sit and do nothing? Are they truly that odd, or is this part of some elaborate plan? Looking down at Kaelas hidden stalker Gordon speaks aloud, "Maybe I should alert them to that wrait-"

Gordon frowns as the Temporal Wraith (who obviously has also grown impatient) blows it's cover and glides, with supernatural speed, towards Kaelas and Alpha.

War or no, ToMU golems protect their Clan- add to that Kaelas not only being the Chancellor but also the founder of the Spark project and you get some mighty protective golems.

Alpha is the first to react, moving in front of Kaelas smoothly. He's aware that such a beast is outside of his abilities to defeat but he can certainly stall it long enough for the heavy golems to get into place.

Speaking of, Kaelas' faithful escorts come thundering out of the back of the crowd at full speed. Which, granted, isn't that impressive being as they're Adamantine golems but the twin Tender Mercies make up for that in other attributes.

As for the man himself, he doesn't really seem to notice until the Wraith is almost there. Once he does, he seems more upset and worried than scared. "The hells did that come... did I bring...?"

Seeing that all the TOMU golems are still several seconds away Gordon knows the wraith has more time then it will need to finish both Alpha and Kealas. Gordon Ironsmith reacts quickly sending a bight flare into the air and removing the cloaking spell he cast on him self and his golems, reveling his gem to be right between Kealas.

With lighting quick speed his Gem springs into action. Running with grace the gem intercepts the shifting form of the wraith. Leaping up Gordon's Gem uses the vicious blades mounted on it's arms to slash at the "face" of the wraith. Dazed the wraith Releases a horrifying moan before lashing out at it attacker, but it is too late the gem has already began running away. The now infuriated the Wraith takes in hot pursuit of the gem, right towards the wall of of exotic golems.

Not wanting his fun completely spoiled, Alpha vaults over to fleeing Wraith to land on it piggy-back style. "Hi." Not above taking advantage of another's help, the homoculus begins to rain blow after blow upon the already wounded face of the beast.

Considering that he's killed more than a few mountain giants in his time, Alpha doesn't think he'll have any problems finishing off the Wraith. Particularly as it's already wounded and was distracted long enough for him to get within range.

Meanwhile, Kaelas, assuming that the monster is now irrelevant, turns back to the possible war unfolding before him. Where is Blaze? And are there even any MAGIER magi still around for this to matter?

Blaze is up front alongside an unfamiliar iron golem. Did she steal it? Create it? Who knows, but it's not one he's seen before.

Yamiko is nowhere in sight; Raiden is hurrying to catch up, alongside a clay golem.

Walking up to Blaze slowly, Kaelas stops about thirty feet away- well outside her lunging range. After a moment, he sighs. "Why Blaze? Why would you make this the first thing that the Sparked golems are known for?"

He gestures at the seeminly vacant buildings before them. "Cobyle isn't there, he hasn't be around for months on end. Coward fled after breaking... after what he did. He's not here, MAGIER isn't a threat to anyone and this is just... pointless."

He shifts his gaze from her to the other golems that have followed her, seeming to meet each and every golems' eyes. "If you want justice, then do it right. I'll go to the Republic Guard and demand that he be found so that he can be brought to face a trial for his crime. This isn't justice... this is just wanton bloodshed."

With a slow bleeding into reality, Kyomi and her Shadow fade into existence on top of a nearby building. The shadowy golem beside Kyomi hands her a quill, while she opens up a huge tome and begins to pen something in.

"What do you think?" She asks her Shadow

"Possibly a salvageable situation." Replies he.

"Either way, this is excellent information for the book of Ymir..."

"At least you are not using it for a doorstop."

Blaze stares her Maker in the eye and, impossibly for a normal golem, defies him. "Magi have no justice for Golems. Magi only bring justice to Magi."

Slowly, menacingly, she turns her gaze to Nanashi, bringing the full force of her simmering anger to bear on him in turn. "Destroyed? By whom? Who is strong enough to stand against us? Even if Magi sabotage us, destroying us and treating us as mere objects, mere trophies for their gruesome entertainment, there are others, dozens of others, who will avenge us. I have no fear of Magi nor their pitiful, half-aware slaves."

Gesturing to Nanashi to bide a moment longer, Kaelas tries one last time. "And if I stand against you? Would you attack me? Kill me, the one that has given you true life. That has stood against his friends, his family, in order to give you freedom and choice. I trusted you Blaze." He begins to circle around Blaze, trying to place himself between them golems and the MAGIER buildings.

"Coyble killed one of ours. He might have built the body, fashioned the framework but we gave her life, a soul. And he had no right to decide that she had to die." His face hardens and he gestures curtly. "Yes, I can't deny that... that she offended me but she was innocent of any offense. He made her as she was. When Coyble destroyed Yami-bot, he commited murder."

Kaelas grimances. "Not that making that thing was particularly good in the first place... sick idea for a courting gift." That last bit seemed more for him than Blaze.

Blaze narrows her eyes. "And you consider yourself the one who decides who lives and who dies? You are the justice, because you have the secret you won't share with us? That makes you some kind of deity in your eyes? I bow before no magus. She was murdered - but she was not yours. She belonged to herself. And her own kind will avenge her."

As for Nanashi, Blaze turns to the iron beside her. "Handle this." She says simply, as the iron, wordless, moves to face Nanashi. Unsparked? Its motions are sluggish, as though it's not receiving enough power, but the thing is massive, large even for an iron golem.

"Secret? I've spend hours and days trying to teach Alpha even the most basic magics without success. Why do you think I approved Five allying with Magus Nanashi so quickly? I can't seem to teach you how to use magic, to quicken a golem, but perhaps he- or another- can." Kaelas seems a touch embarrassed to have to admit he can't help them with this, but he's not going to try and deny it. For very long anyway.

"And as for deciding who lives and dies? I am not the one that decides. If it were up to me, Coyble would have been dead a very, very long time ago. But the laws and customs of this place dictated that Magi are not to be harmed, that combat is to be limited in violence by the use of golems." The Chancellor pauses a moment to clear his throat, then continues. "Magi Xirate, Nanahsi, I thank you for your help but please do not provoke her."

Still quite a ways off, from the south-east, there's slight shimmer approaching. Whatever it is, it's big, metallic and coming fast.

"It's too bad they are blinded by hate. All they'd have to do is ask, like that poor iron there..." Kyomi snaps her book closed, and looks off at what ever is approaching. "I mean, get enough magi, wizards, warlocks, witches and hedge magicians together, and you're bound to have someone who knows something the others don't."
