We've had someone join the clan, take an item, and leave - and that item was not returned to the clan armoury. Specifically, the person exploiting the bug was Delano, not sure if the items stuck with him or were just disappeared.

There are no orphaned items for your clan and Delano has no clan items. I'm doing a bit more research into it.

If he's joining, leaving, and rejoining too often, you can just exile him which would stop him from rejoining.

I wasn't doin' no abusin'!
I just wanted to poke about and read your forums. But, my flesh golem does still have your cross-bow in it's equipment list. I think it's because of the ammunition. After it was loaded, I think it didn't count as a clan item, so it stayed attached to the golem. It's weightless and function less now though, so it might as well not be there... I guess that doesn't help you any though. :P

Hmm, I also exiled a clan member (Keiface) and despite getting a message that clan items were returned, none appeared back into the armory.

This also might be a bug - when unequipping a ranged item, the ammo dissappears.

Since ammo is inifite (right?) on use, could we just dispense with 'ammo' entirely? It's seems rather strangely crippling for ranged weapons to have to research two items for one weapon.

And yet more fun seeming-bugs. Had a clan item in hand, the hand got destroyed. The item is not there on the world map, not returned to the clan armory. Is the intent that they dissappear?

Unfortunately, ammo is not infinite. It seems to come in lots of 20 (at least the first type does) and the number of shots remaining is in small type at the bottom of the golem examine page, under the weapon name. Plus side, only one shot is used per turn, regardless of the number of actual turns.

The "left the clan" mechs were partially clearing the item if it was attached to a golem. It wouldn't orphan it, but it made the golem think it still had it (even if it couldn't use it) and made the clan think it didn't have it (even though they technically did).

Fixed.

I've just doublechecked equipping and unequipping loaded ranged weapons (both in the code and with testing) and it doesn't erase the ammo count. Once loaded, the weapon stays loaded until you use it up in combat... perhaps you mixed up two of the iron-tipped crossbows (one that was loaded, and one that wasn't)?

Hadn't looked into clan items lost due to location damage yet.

Just saw an incident of this; a halberd attached to a flesh golem of mine disappeared when the golem was destroyed.

It's certainly not in the armory, and destroyed golems don't drop loot.

Bug or feature?

pretty sure it's a feature. You only get items back if they were dropped, if the golem was destroyed with them onboard then they're gone forever. This is probably to prevent old little-used items from piling up too much in the armory.

What is a bug is that if a personal item, like armor, eyes, or a powersource drop in the same combat round as a clan item, those personal items disappear for good. (+/- the regenerating armor bug)
