Figured I'd share some thoughts on how to get enough information to me so that I can properly tweak the game. :) First, understand that I'm only one person, everything in the game is coded by me in addition to dealing with the responsibilities of real life, AND combat is the most complex part of the game code. While something might seem like a very minor problem from the player's side of things, it could be very time consuming to fix and test, especially for one person. The opposite might also be true; something that seems crazy complex from the player side may in fact be a simple one line code change. In short, changes to combat more often than not take a long time, especially significant changes to major aspects of combat. So here's some Do's and Don'ts about reporting combat issues. There are a LOT of variables involved and many are subtle and easy to miss, such as the effects of weather and terrain. DO: * DO tell me the golem's number (when looking at your golem on the worktable, this is in the URL: golem.php?g=XXX) -- assuming it's still intact, * DO say what type of golems were involved, * DO say what level the magi involved were, * DO say what the eyes and power source the golem were, * DO say whether you were attacker or defender, * DO say what level the wall was and if the wall had spikes, * DO say what your golem's capacity was (this affects your speed), * DO say whether it was night or day, and what the weather and terrain were like, * DO give your thoughts on what can be done to remedy the problem. DON'T: * DON'T just post the damage totals; this doesn't tell me much if I don't know any of the above, * DON'T use phrases like "horrible tuning," "this sucks," and so forth; I'm pretty thick skinned, but this can put me out of a bug-fixing or combat-tweaking mood pretty quickly. ;) ...and that's pretty much it. The short version: Give me as much information as you can possibly provide without ranting. The game is still in beta, so this is of course the right opportunity for us to hammer it into shape. :D Kep |
