Oookies...this little experience took me by surprise.

Browser: Firefox v3.5.2

I hunt using a Frostwood Longbow and Bone tipped arrows. I went hunting and nearly exhausted my loaded ammo so I clicked reload beneath the bow. It loaded another 20 arrows into the bow and the ammo count beneath the bow's name in the item summary box, showing 23 shots. I only had about 15 arrows available at the time.

I kept clicking the "Load" button and now my bow says that it has 143 shots loaded. I checked my arrow count in the Storage page and it showed that I had 7 arrows left. I clicked the "load" button on my bow again and it loaded 20 arrows. I checked my storage again and I had 6 arrows left.

I unequipped the bow and reequipped it. It still displayed 143 ammo count. I went hunting and combat stated my homunculus shot 3 arrows(I forgot to copy the log -_-;). When I checked the new ammo count, it stated 140 shots left.

Something tells me this is the why it's supposed to work but...1 arrow=20 shots? Rather be safe than sorry. =o

It isn't one arrow, I believe it displays as "Bone Arrows" even when it's a stack of one, I've always though of it as a quiver in the case of arrows and bolts, a case in the case of cannonballs and bullets, and a clip in the case of crystals and darts.

Clicked on the name of my arrows and this is what I saw:

Arrows
Ammunition remaining: 20

Meaning that I was wrong and that the ammo count thing isn't a bug...but being able to load 140 shots???

One unit of ammunition gives you something between 5-30 shots, depending on the type of ammo. The upper limit is 255 shots per weapon.

Yea, I figured that out the hard way. I thought 1 arrow was 1 shot. =^-^=

Sconi has a good way of looking at it. When ammunition is viewed in your storage bin, it's in "bundles" or clusters or groups or whatever rather than total shots.

Round by round use of ammunition doesn't match up to a "per arrow" or "per bullet" usage due to a bug in the code. Likewise, weapons don't cap the max ammunition they can hold properly.

I've purposely avoided fixing either of those because it'd be a non-trivial downtweak to ranged weapon users (making enough ammo for a clan can be time consuming, if not costly).
