So, I just went out to purge the local ruins of anything larger than a mouse, and got the following combat report:

[Round 1] Homunculus begins to advance upon a scavenger ghoul while a scavenger ghoul begins to advance upon Homunculus. Both combatants are out of range with about 44 feet between them.

[Round 2] Homunculus continues to advance upon a scavenger ghoul while a scavenger ghoul closes to melee with Homunculus.
Homunculus attacks with its fist and misses 10 times, but also hits once on the pelvis (7 dmg).
A scavenger ghoul attacks with its sharp fangs and misses 4 times, failing to hit at all.
[Round 3]
Homunculus uses its bronze-edged scimitar and hits once on the chest (13 dmg).
A scavenger ghoul becomes stiff and grey before crumbling apart like old mortar.

You\'ll notice that on round two the golem uses its fists and doesn\'t use the scimitar until round three. I even have it holding two scimitars! Seems a bit silly that upon closing with an opponent golems use their fists rather than any equipped weapons. Is there a reason for this? or is it a bug? or what?

Also, anyone know if there\'s any benefit to having two melee weapons equipped as opposed to just one?

It's unknown still about the benefits of multiple weapons. See the thread in the General forums. However, I do know that you won't swing every time with the scimitar. The better the energy source, the more often you use it it seems. The swords do suck down a lot of energy per use though.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Ark said that using two weapons was pretty useless unless one got knocked off.

You are correct. Ark is thinking about making an option to use only your weapon rather than a mix of weapon and fist. It appears to be random, but I'm not really sure. Although if you went with the only weapon option, you'd probably have a few rounds of standing around doing nothing due to the amount of energy they take.

I would like to re-bring-up the request for a "use weapon only" type option, I keep seeing my golem not use a weapon until late in the combat, so it only gets one hit in with it, which is pretty annoying.

I completely concur. I suspect the "use only weapon/use only fists" toggle is on Ark's "to add" list, but who knows how high up it is. Hopefully this and other equipment/weapon bugs such as reach not working, and regenerating/disappearing items will get looked at after the spell system is in place/debugged.
