I have an Etched Crystal Focus attached to my Homunculous and when I go to fight a monster, during the fight it says that there's still a ranged miss chance (Harperdale: 80%). During the combat, there are no references to the arrows hitting trees, but there's an extremely high miss chance over the course of the fight. The golem equiped as it is without fighting in any woods typically does an amount of damage that should be killing the monster I'm fighting by the 3rd round at the absolute latest, yet fighting in the woods with this set up and an Etched Crystal Focus, I am barely able to kill the monster in 10 rounds. One fight I didn't kill the monster at all. I've tried other wooded areas and other monsters, and the ranged miss chance is still showing in the terrain details and the miss chance during the combats has seemed extremely high, though it is not showing the arrows hitting trees in these fights either. ~Namebreaker |

Back when I had access to the focus, there were still instances where my arrows would hit trees. I noticed that it happened in higher wooded areas. Does the ECF negate forest penalties entirely? Or does it only remedy up to a certain forest density? The description would suggest entirely, but since i was still hitting trees, I stopped using it and eventually stopped using ranged weapons. |

This still occurs, I was just fighting in the woods with a ranged weapon for the first time in a while. Your Clay Golem holds its ground while a dark kobold godslayer holds its ground. Your Clay Golem splinters nearby trees with shot after shot from its repeater dart tube |

The context description of the Etched Crystal Focus says "Bonus: 50%" I have found that translates to the ECF taking 50 points off the percentage miss chance of a wooded area - that is, if the wooded percentage is 50% or below, you don't miss due to trees. If the area is above 50%, the remainder is the actual miss percentage - so Harperdale (80% wooded) has a 30% miss chance. Still a pain, but better than nothing, right? :), MdV |

Given the weight and head slots used by the etched crystal focus... hardly better than nothing :P Last Edited: Dec 29, 2009, 12:15 am |

I'm suspecting this is a request for clarification on the workings of the focus rather than a bug, per se. Bumping but not listing. |
