I sent a no-armed golem with foot-based weaponry against the dragon. I didn't get a chance to fire a shot, since I was out of range for the few scant rounds it took for the dragon to notice I'd forgotten to change out the armour on the chest >.> but I got 0xp. Shouldn't I have gotten XP for having fought the monster with a weapon, despite dealing no damage?

interesting, I attacked someone the other day who had no hands on their golem, but had all green pieces everywhere else and therefore could not attack whatsoever and they still got 10xp (I couldn't resist)

I think it was that the check is for hands, since yami's golem had no arms, let alone hands, the check thought that it couldn't fight. Therefore it awarded zero experience.

Phats' comparison doesn't work the same because it was a handless defender not a handless attacker. Don't think there is a check for hands when you put a golem out the way there is a check for both legs and a power source.

Only way I could test this is to put a flame tongue on an armless golem and send it out a couple times. But I am feeling lazy -_-

Interesting indeed, it appears we still have some figuring out to do when it comes to combat in this game. Though if everything was explained to us then that would take some fun out of it now wouldn't it?

Normally I get XP unless my boots are out of ammo. I hit the slime next, which is what I normally hit, and got the usual 10xp

Okay.

From what I've figured out with various research (Or think I have):

1) A defending golem always recieves at least 1 exp, irregardless of anything.

2) If a defending golem can enter combat, it gets whatever experiance it should get based on it's ECL.

3) If an attacking golem has no arms/hands, it is considered unable to fight. In fact, I believe it does not attempt attacking with anything at all, including foot(Quake Boot), head(Masks),shoulder, or etc mounted weaponry. I have not confirmed that statement for a while though.

4) There is no check for hands or even ability to fight for a defending golem. As long as the golem can enter into an attack, it can be posted outside for defense.

5) Yami is indeed correct. If you attack with a golem and deal no damage you still recieve experiance proportional to ECL difference, unless the golem is considered "Unable to fight".

That is everything I can think of that I can "confirm" for this situation.

Warning: This research is old, and has not been confirmed by me or anyone else in OTAKU Research (Ha.) for a while. Please take all data as unconfirmed and theoretical, but as a useful baseline.

I used to use the Screaming Iron Mask for fighting, often without arms, way back when that was our top weapon. I got xps, and won many a fight.

This issue is probably specific to the weapon never trying to fire. The same thing happened in those ancient times when I ran out of ammo before the fight without realizing it.

My guess is that the only default weapon check is for fists, but other weapons set the flag when they actually get used. Of course, this is only speculation, but if it's right it might help Kep pinpoint the bug.

False. Quake Boots and Screaming Masks allow XP gain without arms. Hence why I never replaced Slimebait's arms >.>

I have a suspicion the check may be along the lines of "If you have hands OR have dealt damage you get XP"

Was this corrected? I've not been using the same golem, so I've not yet reproduced the problem again.
