On the road south, some ways from the hustle and bustle of Zion's Reach lies a small tea house with a few rooms upstairs. The food is good and filling without being extravagant. The decorations simple but appealing.

Nanashi sits at a small table, sipping a cup of green tea. He bites into one of the small buns contemplatively, savoring the flavor. A small stack of scrolls lie on the table next to him, some with an ornate seal, others plain and unadorned.

((OOC: I have so many characters in my head and it has been so long I can't remember if I made Nanashi a vegetarian >_> ))

Just entering the teahouse, Halftea pulls back her travel cloak and looks around. Spotting a magus she recognizes, she perks up and heads to the open table near him. She proceeds to sit down and asks for a list of the available teas.

While waiting for the service, she glances curiously at the pile of scrolls in front of him, but waits for Nanashi to acknowledge her presence.

Nanashi looks up at the movement, and says, "Oh, hello, Halftea. Pardon my mess. I am trying to handle some records and missives. I would do them in my office, but people seem to enjoy interrupting me or worse, adding to the pile. How have you been?"

((OOC: For the sake of continuity, this falls in the time between Gordonsmith Estate and the Conference. But it is not directly related to either.))

Halftea laughs, "I know the feeling, between running the Bakery and teaching the bakers and Magi apprentices, I sometimes feel like I should have a second me just to handle the interruptions. But overall I can't complain, business is good and things are for the most part quiet."

She continues, "I'm just in the area after gathering some samples down in Kern. While the Civil War was a tragedy, it did seem to spawn some interesting twists on the normal spices. Have you tried some of the teas Harbringer farms has put out lately?"

"I hope I'm not interrupting, but I couldn't help but over hear your conversation." A pretty young woman with strangely white hair stands next to the two mages. "May I sit down?"

Halftea looks at the newcomer and says, "I don't believe we've met before. I'm usually called Halftea, and run a Bakery and Kiln out in Darghelm."

She glances at Nanashi, "I have no objections, its always nice to make new acquaintances. Do you mind if she joins us?"

((OOC: Yes, I have been rather inactive of late. No, this is not free license to attack me. Yes, you will be blown up.))

Nanashi waves to a chair, saying, "Certainly, sit. It isn't my teahouse. I just come here cause it is harder for messengers to find me without being too far from my workshop." He refills his cup from the chilling teapot, then winces. "I would offer you some of this but I don't know your preference... and this is somewhat cooled..."

He signs a minor heat rune on the pot, until steam starts rising from the spout, then he unravels it returning the energies.

Pulling out a chair Lucy sits down. "Oh I like my tea how ever I can get it." Lucy smiles before adding, "Though if you have sugar I think I could indulge. Halftea what is the name of your bakery? I often take visits to Darghelm." Now that she closer a mage of some skill would be able to feel that an aura surrounded the young woman. "Oh I'm sorry! I suppose I should introduce my self. I'm Lucy and run a herb supplier down in Broukendale."

After letting out a slight laugh, she replies "Well it's right near the northern side of town, and I must confess, a creative name wasn't exactly on my to do list, so it's just called 'Halftea's Baked Goods and Pottery Studio'. Although honestly I only added the Studio a few years ago. My bakery apprentices went through a phase where they kept ruining my bakeware and dinner services. So it became more economical to just start making my own."

After looking slightly askance at Lucy, she refocuses her eyes and asks, "So herbs huh? Do you specialize in the various families like medicinals or spices? Or are you more of a all-around kind of supplier?"

She smiles at Nanashi and says, "Oh and Nanashi? Heating up your tea is sweet, but let me order a couple of fresh pots. Tea tastes better freshly brewed with nice company rather than reheated. And I promise we won't interfere too much with your paperwork, although you look like you can use a slight excuse for a break." She smiles again, and beckons for the waiter to bring some fresh pots to the table.

"'Halftea's Baked Goods, no I don't think I've never been there. Though now I'll be sure to pay you a visit. As for my herbs I've dealt with practicly every herb one could mention. I've even bred my own." Lucy replies before taking sip of her tea.

Nanashi looks at the reheated teapot and grins sheepishly, "You're right about tea not tasting as good after it has been reheated. But one tends not to notice when bogged down with paperwork. That is until it just tastes like burnt grass rather than the flavor it started."

He surreptitiously hides a few of the scrolls while rolling up others, and says, "Some lovely company would be appreciated, as well as some food." He lifts the plate near him and hails the waitress, "Could we get some more of these delicious pastries?"

The waitress nods and goes back into the kitchen.

Halftea winks playfully at Nanashi, "Pastries too? How could a girl possibly refuse?"

Laughing, she turns back to Lucy, "I hope you have a list of your herbs for later, but I wouldn't want to bore Nanashi with shop talk. Although I'm curious about the types you breed, any of the strange mixes coming out of Kern? I must confess I'm not sure how much of the alchemical pollution affected the Mosswash with the runoff."

Answering Halftea's last question Lucy replies, "The entire swamp was heavily affected by Alchemical run off of prior decades, but such things have since healed, a couple mutated species here and there, but few have survived the test that is nature. Sadly what the Alchemist guild concedes 'clean' is far from satisfactory and I've been working with several of the alchemy clans to clean up the process further." Lucy's voice had grown harsh over the last several statements but she continued, her voice cooling off. "But I'm off on a tangent. As for herbs I grow, well name it and I'll have it, even fresh if it's in season. As for things I'm breed well I'm sure you hear of black sage? It's used in the inks for many spell casters sonic spells. I managed to create a new species which I call sleeping sage which has dozen of medical uses and can be distilled into a heavy, but remarkably safe sedative."

Lucy Seem fairly happy with herself on her achievement, but before she could continue the sever returned with the plate of pasties.

"Ohh, nice choices Nanashi." Halftea says as she selects some of the pastries.

Looking speculatively back at Lucy, she says, "I've been known to use black sage from time to time, but I would like to try your sleeping sage sometime. Always a good idea to keep a well stocked apothecary in the workshop. My apprentices can cause the most amazing accidents at times. Probably my own fault as they get into joint projects."

Smiling she adds, "The giant gingerbread golems were creative, but not the wisest call. Although the remains were surprisingly tasty, or at least the local orphanage thought so."

Turning back to Nanashi she asks, "So anything new growing out in the Icerush I should know about? Some of those ice lichens produce some wonderful food colorings and thinkening agents. So has Sissel let you know if he's found anything new to play with?"

Nanashi chews a pastry contemplatively, and around a mouthful says, "Not that I am aware of. Granted, I don't spend all that much time looking for new plants. As for old plants, I only notice when large quantities die or grow wildly."

He takes a sip of tea. "I am not Sissel's keeper, and if you knew him you would come to know how much fun he has tormenting anyone who tries."

"Sissel is... well... special," Nanashi says evasively, taking a small bite of pastry and looking away. "He owns an inn and tavern in Asylum. If you are ever in the area, you can stop in there and maybe find out for yourself." He takes another bite of his pastry and sips his tea innocently.

(OOC: Wow, I kept meaning to get back and add some more. Hadn't realized how much time has actually passed. I blame RL as usual. And time wise we are still WAY before the birthday events.)

"You'll have to head up Mount Kestrel way when you have a spare afternoon. Sissel is known to hang out there when he isn't at the inn. Although I'll warn you, I have to agree with Nanashi, Sissel's sense of humor is...well...unique is probably the best adjective that springs to mind." After taking a sip of her tea, Halftea smiles slightly, as if remembering something.

Turning her focus back to the present, she continues, "But I think we digress, we were originally discussing teas, specifically the new Harbringer Farms varieties. I like what they've done with some of the fruit and tea combination blends, they make a nice compliment to a afternoon repast. Refreshing, without being overly sweet as actual juice, but better than a diluted juice blend would be."
