"We'll I didn't think they spread this far!" Gordon shouts. His Clay golem and wood already pumping arrows into the oncoming wraiths (Careful to avoid hitting Semaj) Gordon holds his hand out towards three boulders sitting near which fly high into the air before they come crashing down on to a wraith, crushing it into nothing. The wraiths begin letting out horrific screams, which echo throughout the valley.

Gordon's gem golem Frostfire dives passed them driving into the darkness to some unseen target. "We need to get going they've already summoned an overseer!" Gordon draws his sword and casts elemental fury before rushing forward to aid Semaj. Purge, Gordon's copper, follows closely behind.

Calming moving up to stand beside Gordon, Alpha begins to unload dart after dart from his repeater. Each shot hits with impressive force, penetrating much further than it seems like it should. His crystal focus allows him to ignore branches and other clutter between him and his prey and the small lantern on his waist helps a little as well.

Glancing over at Gordon, he nods politely. "I believe it best that I stay with you. Should you fall, we lose our best source of information on our foe." Suiting deed to word, he falls into a defensive firing pattern, spacing his shots not so much to kill as to distract and redirect any wraiths that approach.

As the middle wraith opens its mouth to scream Semaj hits it full force. The wraith is driven to the ground and forced to take the full impact of the collision, sliding no less then 15 feet on the ground with Semaj on top of it. The wraith looks up at Semaj.

"Not dead yet?" Semaj asked.

The wraith opened it's mouth and before a scream came out is where Semaj planted his fist. The wraith faded to nothingness.

"I could kill those all day." Semaj snickered.

Petros with a large boulder in hand follows the charge. Semaj will wait for Petros to reach him before advancing.

((OCC: So we are just dispatching the minions as we see fit? Normally the ring leader takes care of enemy reactions. So how is this going to run? We going to have a turn order, is Gordon taking care of all enemy reactions? Some guidance is needed.))

"I see bodies, lots of bodies, already cold...all female..er? a couple are still standing" taps the goggles and adjusts the thermal range "ah, it's ok they're just Frost Dryads"

MS scans past the ongoing battle "I can see Agoia Talia, it seems to be still standing"

The RANGER golem moves off to one side of the main group and settles into a waiting position, settling its camouflaged cloak about itself and blending into the surroundings.

While keeping one hand on its weapon as a precaution, and keeping partial attention on the ongoing fight, it scans the surrounding area for other developments and activities. Noticing a group of Frost Dryads, it mentally catalogs their position, and continues its observations...

Laidan arrives, appearing behind Gordon. He quickly surveys the scene as his golems move into flanking positions. Seeing no immediate threats to his person, he calmly reaches into his pack, taking out what seems to be a spiked chain sized for a mage, but glowing a dull red. He slips on a heavy leather glove, and unfurls the hellfire chain, looking for a target, then looks to Ironsmith. "What's the plan?"

(OOC: The minions are fair game, but I'd like to remain in control of any big nasties, and any other NPC's that may roll in.)

Gordon sword drawn momentarily turns around to face both Laidan, and Alpha. "The plan is to get too the center of the valley, kill everything that tries to stop us. I'll fill you in more when we get closer." Gordon turn back around and heads too Semaj. "And thanks Alpha but I think you should be watching yourself more so then me." Gordon takes of with a wink."

While Gordon stop to reassure Alpha and Liadan, Purge caught up too the wraith trying to flank Semaj. Wrapping it's arms around the semi-corporeal form of the wraith, Purge begins to crush the wraith. The wraith makes vain attempts to free itself from the ever heating grasp of Purge, but even as it tries tiny wisps of itself begin to "burn" off as Purge begins to glow.

(Note this is the last of the three wraiths, but have no fear more are coming ;) )

Al nods absently as he sends an iron tipped dart into the forehead of the pinned wraith. While he can deal a surprising amount of damage at close range, his frame can only take modest punishment without shutting down. So he's better off remaining off to the sides, assisting the attacks of the more robust golems.

And apparently that includes Semaj as well, he notes in passing. Laiden appears to have made himself battle ready but his ability is as yet unproven. Gordon claims to be a match for the wraiths, Lady Kyomi is attending by her golem Shadow (self-aware as well, if he recalls) and MS in close proximity.

Not really having much in the way of targets or people in any need of protection, he merely continues at a steady pace towards the center of the valley. He does take care to stay in the center of the group, such as it is.

With the three wraith quickly dispatched Petros moves forward into the valley. As he passes by Semaj leaps onto his shoulder. They move at the front of the group. While on his perch Semaj bites his right index finger causing it to bleed.

"Why are you carrying that rock?" Semaj asked Petros.

Semaj begins drawing a ruin on Petros' forehead in blood.

"So I can crush the next wraith that comes at us with it." Petros replies.

Semaj finishes the ruin and reaches into Petros' shoulder covering his hand in dust then begins to draw the same ruin on his forehead in dust.

"You don't feel the need to get even kinda serious yet?" Semaj asked.

Semaj finished the ruin on his forehead.

"Nope, not yet." Said Petros.

Semaj begins to speak in what sounds like Draconic. "Let these two minds act as one, until one falls or the battle is won."

"I want you to be my eyes and backup. I think there are going to be a lot of these things and you are a better shot then me with a boulder." Semaj thought.

As they move down the valley two more wraiths appear. Before anyone has time to react Petros hurls the boulder at and hits both of them, smashing them into nothingness and leaving the boulder firmly implanted in the valley wall.

"I can do that, I like throwing boulders anyways." Petros thought back.

Semaj looks at Petros. "Nice shot by the way."

Petros keep moving forward with not so much as a missed beat. "Thanks."

Shan and his golems arrive a bit late to the party. Shan finds the dark sky overhead unsettling. The clouds look angry.

He pulls the straps of his backpack tight and jogs to catch up with the rest of the group.

Gordon stop at the nearest ridge, which gives a decent view into the valley. Looking down into the valley one can see the shifting forms of wraiths and what seem like bodies, but one can not tell with the naked eye. Along with sight the group can here the screams for many wraiths it's no wonder the wraiths screams where unanswered.

Waiting for Shan to catch up Gordon begins to explain. "See the glow deeper in the valley?" Gordon asks pointing to a purple, red glow emanating from the darkened valley. "That's an opened rift and from the looks of it it's very large probably two meters in diameter. I can't tell you precisely how many wraiths there are just that there are at least 2-3 dozen along with anything else that might have come through."

"This unnatural darkness means they've already summoned an 'Overseer'. From my last encounter the only noticeable different from the overseers and wraiths are size. The overseers are mush more powerful in every respect, but there actions are slower. We'll need to use our numbers and speed to our advantage when we face it." Gordon pauses so that questions may be asked.

The RANGER golem continues so move slightly in the wake of the party. Keeping to what items of cover that are available, and moving swiftly and silently, an observer might wonder if it already knew the area.

It pauses as it gains sight of a Dire Unicorn moving at the party, unfastening its weapon, it moves to intercept when it pauses. The Dire Unicorn has stopped and is sniffing the air, but unlike its normal maddened charge, this beast turns and suddenly bolts away from the party.

It stares thoughtfully at the departing creature, acting so unlike its usual bloodthirsty behavior patterns. It isn't the size of the group, while large, the unicorns have been know to attack larger parties. The cause still undetermined, but possibly related to the reason they all came.

The golem refastens its weapon, then cups its hands and appears to concentrate. A small multicolored spark appears between its hands while the golem stares intently at it. The spark cycles throughout the available spectrum a few times and suddenly flashes three times and its colors shift into greens. The golem opens its hands and the spark sails up, circling it a couple times, then speeds off in the direction of Jaaron, accelerating steadily.

It's preliminary report on its way, the golem resumes its progress shadowing the party.

"You previously stated that these Overseers control the other wraiths. Do you have any idea as to the extent of their control?" Alpha glances at Gordon but his attention is mostly on their surroundings. "If we were able to, say, threaten or wound the Overseer, would it be possible for him... it... to be forced to withdrawal the other wraiths from the area?"

He pauses, then explains "I'm attempting to formulate battle plans but without nay real understanding of their social structure and mental design, I find myself at something of a loss."

The intelligent wraiths I've documented are quite cunning, but the more damage you do the more mistakes they make. I think of them as one trick ponies. you need to be wary, but defeating them is very simple."

Gordon continues to elaborate. "Regular wraiths will simply charge and try to rip apart there target with there claws. The green wraiths have a similar plan, but attempt to gather more wraiths before they come after you. The overseers are immensely strong and will order near by wraiths to intercept enemies before it moves in for the kill. It's control seem little more then simple organization and spell casting relating to the rifts."

"The wraiths we really need to watch for are the ones with the daggers. They act independently and are capable of switching tactics if something doesn't work. But the most problematic thing is when then throw those damn daggers of theirs, they'll slice through iron like it was butter. The best way to deal with them is to create a flash of light and hit them while there disoriented."

Gordon opens his hand palm up before the area darkens for a moment. When the dim light returns three brightly glowing orbs appear in Gordon's hand. "Take these." Gordon hands the glassily orbs to Alpha. "Break them in your hand or throw them at the ground and they'll release a bright flash that should be enough to disorientate any wraith. Anyone else need one?"

"Yeah, this is trouble." Semaj sighs.

The wraiths look to dance about the valley. Semaj was know to come up with a good plan every now and then but strategy wasn't his strong suit. He was always more of a think on the fly kinda guy.

Petros looked into the valley. The shifting forms of the wraiths make in imposable for him to pin point a target on his own.

"I have an idea." Spoke Petros. "If taking down the Overseer is the most important task at hand I can throw some of you into the valley. If Masterslug can use those goggles of his to find the target I can probably get you close while a second team creates a distraction at the valley entrance."

Semaj looks awkwardly at Petros. "You've been reading my comic books again haven't you?"

"Yes, yes I have." Petros replies. "Still, it doesn't sound like a bad plan if killing the overseer will in some way effect the other wraiths."

"Petros, that would be fine plan but I'm afraid I see one major flaw, sorry, If those you throw can't beat off the mass of wraiths protecting the overseer, then they would be trapped, the rest of us wouldn't be able to get to them in time. The only way out would be magic, which wouldn't be a problem but does any one know how a rift that big would effect spells or even golems?

Master slug scans the floor of the valley.*

"I have an idea, what if we where to draw off the majority of the wraiths first? make them come to us. That way we get to keep higher ground out of that marsh which is likely to hinder most of us far more that them. and those of you who can use magic or rely on it for power and even life, won't have to worry about the rifts possible effects. Then when they are committed to an attack on our position, you chuck in any one feeling particularly suicidal to take down the Overseer."

pauses for breath "all we would need is ... er erm ...bait"

"Hm, well..." Shan considers pointing out that thirty or forty wraiths split among each of the physical combatants should be less than five wraiths per fighter. Assuming they can spread them out properly, that doesn't sound extremely dangerous to him. But he decides against sharing this after reminding himself that Gordon's familiarity with the wraiths makes him much better qualified to judge how big a threat they pose. Shan has crazier ideas to put forth, anyway.

He focuses his gaze away from the wraiths, and onto the terrain.

"Er, for bait, I'd say my clay golem has good odds of surviving that task."

The low light makes it difficult to determine details of the valley, such as the angles or weak points of its walls.

"But, since the wraiths seem deep enough in the valley, I might as well ask... uh, does anyone have something that might let us just... knock a hill down onto them?"

"Or probably just some of a hill," he adds.

Petros sighs at Masterslugs comment.

"Its ok big guy, I didn't even offer a plan." Semaj says to Petros to cheer him up.

With the introduction of Shan's idea Semaj looks at Shan. "You mean a land slide?" Semaj asked Shan. "Petros here can make a land slide. He can move all types of earth. He just hasn't gotten serious yet."

Petros nods at the comment. "If we can get close to a good point to do something like that I can make it happen."

Semaj then continues "Oh, and I am not particularly suicidal but I am good at being bait, and surviving. If that becomes part of the plan I can go and cause some trouble with that clay golem of yours."

Down in the valley Master slug can see many corpses mostly of the local monsters and wildlife, but several Republican guards men are scattered about, the number isn't precise as no of the bodies are... intact.

On the ridge...
"Hum, land slide you say? Sound good." Gordon says to Shan. "That's easily workable Send a flair down get the wraiths to come get us, boom. I like it." A stone on Gordon's sword glows, "It looks like Frostfire (Gordon's gem golem who ran off earlier) is in position down the valley closer too the rift, she can back up anyone who goes down there."

"As for making the ridge collapse I have more then a few fire and sonic spells capable."

Laidan Looks curious at the idea of dropping a hill on the wraiths, but raises some questions to Gordon: "How organized would you expect them to be with an Overseer? Would we still be facing a charge, just with a larger group, instead of one or a few at a time? What about some sort of formation on our part, big golems out front to absorb the charge, ranged behind to pick them off? Simple, yes, but surely we can elaborate on it..."

Turning to Liadan. "I highly doubt we'll meet any organized charge until it deems us a threat, and to make sure we slow them down and get the most of the attack we can cast a simple frost spell on our ranged weapons and that should be more then enough to get them to cluster."

The RANGER bone golem pauses in a position overlooking the party, close enough to respond if unanticipated danger closes, but not so close as to interfere with whatever they plan.

While observing the area, it again cups its hands, summoning three of the rainbow-hued sparks. It places them near its shoulder, where they continue to hover and follow its slight movements as it continues to scan the area.

Alpha smiles slightly. "I believe I can handle a flank by myself" he replies. "On average, I can take down a wraith in about 18-24 seconds, once in range. Provided the terrain forces them to come in roughly single file, I can hold them indefinitely, particularly with Magus Gordon's light spheres to fall back on."

He pauses. "Well, I can take out approximately fifty or so wraiths with my current ammo supply. Hmmm. Would it be possible to ask one of you to supply a spell for me? Perhaps Second Wind, Hasten, Bless, Holy Smite or any of the strength enhancing spells? Though nearly any spell would be useful."

Obviously, none of the workshop spells would work, nor would golem type specific ones. And melee oriented spells would be useful only as a last resort- if Alpha is close enough to hit a wraith himself, it's been ripping at him for at least a full round.
