I don't know if this should fall under Clan Items not returning or a Clan Armoury bug.

Anyway, when reviewing the page which lists all Clan items on depot and personal golems in the Armoury, I noticed we had displays of items located on golems with no name, type or level.

I initially thought it might refer to items held in personal storage bins, but further testing eliminated that possibility. These items can be returned if someone has them listed as unassigned but checked out on the main Clan return Page, but do not show in personal Storage Bins.

Our leading theory is that the items were once on a Clan golem destroyed in combat. They appear to be mostly items located on limbs and heads so it is possible they were knocked off and put in a 'return to Clan' queue - if there is such a thing, which was then canceled upon the original golems destruction. Said queue then did not reset itself but continued to hold the data and transferred it to the Armoury.

Anyway, that means a lot of orphaned items that can be reclaimed which should have been destroyed if I understand the mechanics correctly.

Were any of these items hit by the phantom limb bug before the golem was destroyed? Only thing I can think of that might cause this. I have suicided a few golems against dragons and lost/destroyed clan items, but didn't get a glitch.

Honestly I'm not certain. Based on the type and level of items, I would guess all this happened when we had our dust up with TOMU, but this is the first time anyone in my Clan has noticed it.

So its entirely possible they were a product of the phantom limb bug. But since the original events happened before the initial fixing of that bug, I don't know if its a carry over or not.

All I can factually determine is that they still exist outside of the Armoury or Storage space and can be returned if someone notices them in the items they have checked out.

I stumbled upon this bug as well in our Golem depot. An iron golem was damaged and lost an arm. I created a lvl 1 right arm and right hand, and when I attached them, they were suddenly equiped with both iron scales and 2 iron bands (1 iron band on the hand). Those I de-equiped to prevent bug abuse, but I could no de-equip 1 phantom item in the right hand, an item or weapon, no clue, since it is neither shown in the equiped items section beneath the golem nor at the hand itself.

Technically the hand is now blocked with a phantom item.

I believe the phantom item bug has been fixed, since I found something in the spell system that would cause it while searching for the leg/hand loss bug.

Golems with existing phantom items will continue to have them, but if a new phantom situation is created, let me know.

Which bug have you squished:

a) the age-old "Phantom Limb" bug in which items are attached to nonexistant limbs

or

b) the bug this thread is about, which is to say, returnable clan items on golems that do not exist any longer?

And to quickly note, that the age-old "Phantom Limb" bug wasn't fixed as of when the dragons were released, since my dragon hunting golem has a phantom golden bunny ring. I don't know if the fix was supposed to be more recent than that or not.

Just to clarify, my reading of this is I believe Kep was referring to:
a) the age-old "Phantom Limb" bug in which items are attached to nonexistent limbs.

I'm basing this on the fact Kep informed me privately that the returnable items were supposed to exist, I don't know if the failure to return mechanic - which was possibly tied into the phantom limb issue - was ever discovered however. I hope that helps.
