Asylum, deep in the maze of shady alleys, warped shacks and forbidding dark doorways. Here, where the streets have no names. Just close to a junction which should have been named Desperation Avenue and Homicide Lane some schemes are closing in, walking through the alley boldly.

The denizens lurk deeper into the sideways and doorways, slight whispers are heard, a bit scared of what they are witnessing.

A figure, wearing a long hooded dark grey cloak walks down the shady alley, accompanied by two large bulky schemes whose steps thunder through the alley loudly and make the worn out walls shake. Red glowing eyes scan the surroundings slowly. Beside the hooded figure a light fooded, slender person can be seen, carrying a box. Suddenly the group stops. The large schemes take positions left and right to the hooded figure who raises his hand and opens it, snipping the fingers quickly and murmuring something incomprehensibly. A small blue light zips into the area and lights the area. The large bulky schemes show their nature, a large iron and a large adamantine golem, the smaller person is a small size gem golem.

The hooded figure raises his head, as if looking for something. Slowly nodding to himself he looks up and finally seems to find what he was looking for. He motions someone from aloft the shack at the junction of the two alleyways aside, and all out of a sudden, a approximately seven feet tall slender figure jumps down the shack and lands elegantly before him, bowing her head and awaiting new commands. Another, but larger, gem golem.

The hooded figure makes some circling hand movements, quickly addresses the four golems, and makes a swift hand movement to dissolve the blue zipping light. The golems move around the shack and seem to merge into the shadows.

"Seems I am the first to arrive. Excellent.", he says as to himself. A slight smirk can be seen on his face. With a moaning creak the shaken door opens as he enters the shack and vanishes from sight. An eerie silence returns after the door closes again.

A scuffling sound is heard from deep within the alleyway, and continues ominously before another cloaked figure steps forward into the patches of moonlight surrounding the shack. His face is just barely visible, aglow from the burning cherry of his crudely wrapped cigar every time he takes a drawn out puff.

Following behind him are dancing, dull sparkles that appear and disappear; moonlight refracted through the prism chest of the nimble Gemstone golem, walking briskly to keep up. Close behind is the looming, bull horned shadow of a somber brass golem, revolting slightly with each moonlit sparkle that touches it's dull, brass chest.

The figure stops before the shack and lets out a faint whistle, signaling a towering, heavily armored Copper golem to step forward. Taking one last look around before placing his gloved hand on the door handle, he makes a swift gesture and all three golems disappear into the shadows as those before them. Chuckling to himself at the thought of such large creatures staying hidden, he opens the door and steps inside, making sure that the door closes behind him with no more than a barely audible *creak*.

A few minutes later a trio of figures came down the alley from the opposite direction. In front was a tall man with a hooded cloak obscuring his eyes, an aura of unease surrounding him like the stench of a recent corpse. Behind him to the left a hulking mass of semi-decomposed flesh, eyes shining with an unholy luster. Behind and to the right walked a rail thin figure, cloak bulging in odd places, a skeleton given impetus, it's eyes glowing with the very fires of hell.

As they reached the shack the first figure gestured and the two things stopped and took up guard positions across the street, looking for all the world like macabre statuary. Glancing around he spied a glint off of one of the metal golems and smiled, chilling the blood of onlookers. He then entered the shack, leaving the alley warmer for his absence.

A cold wind gusts through the empty alleyway as yet another cloaked and hooded figure walks quickly yet soundlessly towards towards the shack, unaccompanied by human or golem. Unconcerned by the menacing armada of golems guarding the shack, he displays a strange, eerily-glowing talisman of sorts and is quickly granted entrance.

The shack is dimly-lit by the embers of a dying fire. As the howling wind gusts through the drafty shack, the embers glow a brilliant yellow and then slowly fade to red as the wind recedes. Bathed in the sudden flash of light, the hooded figure removes his shabby cloak and reveals his identity to the other miscreants that are gathered.

"Have we all assembled, or are there more to come?" he asks quietly. His cold, calculating eyes survey the room and its occupants in a precise manner.

"Hmm, perhaps we have been a wee bit too vague concerning the time of our meeting...", one of the hooded figures says calmly. "Or, of course, something or someone delayed them, we are living in dangerous times after all, and Asylum is full of curious eyes, this is why I suggested to put up a guard of Golems outside."

"But this does not hinder us to get more comfortable, does it?" He pushes back his cloak and reveals his identity as a Knight of Havoc Magus.

"I suggest a little more light and perhaps a nice noodle bowl?", and all out of a sudden he seems to be almost cheerful.

"Yeah, send me the invite... god my bones still hurt." Semaj mumbles to himself as he enters the alleyway. Only a day fully recovered from his fight with the wraith Overseer he is still in pain. He is only accompanied by a pocket sized forest golem. His stone golem Petros lay waiting a few blocks down the street. Semaj seems to be moving more quickly than he normally does. The forest golem whispers to Semaj as he walks past the door to the meeting place.

"We did? Persistent bugger, thought I would never lose him." Semaj replies as he turns around and walks up to the door. He could feel the presents of the golems in the ally as all there gaze fallowed him. "Good thing I'm on everyone's good side..."

Semaj knocks once on the shack door and it pops open. He walks in closing the door behind him. Lowering the hood to his cloak he speaks.

"Why in the hell did I have to ditch someone on the way here? Oh, hey everyone! Been a while... but really someone was following me." Semaj rambles as he enters the building. Two of the people there Semaj already knew from his self imposed ambassador duties the other two he had yet to meet. But as always he was there to help as he could.

The miniature forest golem jumped out of Semaj's pocket and hid in a corner of the room. Semaj went to take a seat and make himself comfortable.

((OOC: And the ambassador arrives. For time line purposes, as this may take a bit to finish IRL I will set this as one day after the Battle in Bossenwelle Valley. That is as long as there is no objections. :) That is encase Gordon starts up the next leg of his thing as I will be in that when it starts too.))

Phats, sitting in the corner and leaning back in his chair, takes off his cloak and reveals his identity to the room. Puffing casually at his cigar, he smiles weakly and gives a flippant wave to Semaj as he enters. With the cloak removed, his poor condition is revealed to the room. Hair singed to stubble and what looks like it used to be a shirt clings to his shoulders; smudges of black spot the patches of skin peaking through the holes in the shirt.

"I've heard of your battle, I could see the commotion from the Southmount. I would have been there myself, but uhh...I've been..." he breathes in deep and lets out a breath, "busy... I guess that is how one could describe it."

Reaching into the pack on his back, he pulls a Blunderbuss and lays it across his lap. "So, first order of business?" Eyes shifting around the room they finally rest back on the Blunderbuss in his lap. Noticing a scratch, he mutters something about Kobolds under his breath before shifting his gaze over to the small wood golem and begins to watch intently...

"Indeed, we may have too vague about the details of the meeting," Don Juan says, inclining his head towards Xorphitus in a thoughtful manner. "However, I am sure that those who are sympathetic to our cause will find their way here in due time," he finishes.

"A noodle bowl would be most welcome, as..." surveying the occupants of the room, "many of us have traveled a long way on a cold night." Crouching in front of the glowing embers, he mutters an incantation and bright flames burst forth from the ancient fireplace, bathing the shack and its occupants in a warm, yellow glow. The din of clattering kitchenware, and a muttered comment that sounds suspiciously like "back to the kitchen," is heard as he busies himself with preparing the hot noodles.

Suddenly seeming brighter, he smiles and greets Semaj warmly, "It is good to see you Semaj, we have missed your visits. I'm sure that your new position has been keeping you very busy."

Chivatha, who had been silent until now, pulled back his hood revealing a face riddled with scars. The most prominent being one that was a perfect horizontal slash starting on one side of his face and continued to the other side at the same level as his eyes. the eyes themselves seemed... unnatural and would, on closer inspection, reveal themselves to be gemstone eyes of the same type used in golems but intricately detailed to look like human eyes. "Indeed, Semaj it is good to see you, though I doubt we've been formally introduced. I am Chivatha."He then looked at Don Juan. "A noodle bowl would be most welcome while we wait for others to show."

"ChiVatha, nice to meet you." Semaj nods his head acknowledging ChiVatha. This was a man who looked to have battle scars to rival those of his own.

"A noodle bowl would be nice right about now. I must say though I do miss being able to visit the other clans, there is just so much paperwork when you are in charge though.... why didn't you guys warn me about that?" Semaj asked Phats and Dan Juan as he chuckled lightly.

"Though I do hope I can use that influence I have to help you guys with whatever this meeting is about." Semaj affirmed. Semaj unclasp his cloak, letting it lay over the back of his chair.

Meanwhile, the small forest golem in the corner had pulled up one of the stones that made op the floor and was resting peacefully in the dirt that lay underneath, sinking his roots into the ground just a bit.

"Well, there are various issues we may discuss methinks", Xorphitus said thoughtfully after fetching a noodle bowl and making himself comfortable on a worn-out chair.

Xorphitus was a man of undeterminable age, looking young and old at the same time. Wearing an old and holey pointy light grey wizards' hat and a part singed and scratched light grey wizards' robe with various stitched silver stars, anyone could guess he was studying various schools of magic, and his long, straggly hair was a sign that not all of his magical experiments went smoothly. His hair was dark brown, but with various multi-coloured strands. Some scars ran across his face, his eyebrows obviously had been singed away. He removed his blue glassed goggles and let it vanish in one of his robe's deep pockets. He scratched his long goatee thoughtfully, then continued:

"I hear rumours and stories all around that concern me, I witnessed some strange signs when I was on my expeditions to the Southmont Mountains and on my long journey across the wilder parts of Muelsfell. And, of course, the ongoings in the Senate and what happened there in the last weeks and months. We have enough topics to talk about."

His golden brown eyes wandered through the room, adressing everyone else briefly.

"To sum up what we want to speak about, I think we should make a short list of our main topics, so every point has enough time to be thouroughly discussed. As far as I am concerned we should talk about the Senate and the evil tidings there which paralyze it. I may explain this briefly when we grab up this point. Another topic for sure is the increasing number of violence between the clans, violence exceeding the scale of skirmishes. Especially by some of the most powerful Magi in the realms. This seems to be linked with the Senate issues. A third point we should gather up our informations and insights about is the increasing kobold activity. They are getting organized and made some significant breakthroughs in the magical arts it seems. And the fourth issue I want to talk about is the talk about self-aware golems. If there are self-aware golems, I am alarmed since the rise of the golems might lead to the fall of everything we take for granted and a menace for our whole civilization I am afraid. But before I get all overexcited, what other topics do you suggest we should discuss after our meals?"

Looking a bit embarrassed, he looks around and nervously gets out a small tobacco bag and a clay pipe and starts stuffing it.

"Indeed, discussion amongst the community discussion boards in Darghelm have a tension that is almost palpable. It boils down to what I would describe as a display of passive/aggresive behavior. That is how I would put it. It is often I report back to Don Juan to vent over some magi or another, and the way they display themselves. If you ask me, a tavern is no place for the discussion boards to be housed... albeit I get quite a lovely grog in Darghelm, an amber, wheat grog with that zest aftertaste like that of a....." Phats trails off for a moment in blissful reminiscence before guiding himself back on track, "...Everyone is full of pep by the time they make their way to the discussion. Though, I have gleaned some very interesting suggestions from that one fellow... Harryhausen... that's his name. Just once I would like to sit in on the goings-on in his workshop, just to see what he manages to dream up. If only I was equipped for the concoction of such ideas, although things are going, um... well with the uh..."

Phats thinks to himself to choose his next words carefully. He caught Xorphitus' glance in his direction when he brought up Kobolds.

"... alright fine... the Kobold tribes. I sold some land to them that I have been holding on to for some time in the Southmount and, next thing you know, they have their own damn community set up there. While I was working through some paperwork with one of the lead Dark Kobold Mages regarding the sale of the land and the border of the property, one of those little bastards stole some blueprints. Next thing you know they have their Stalkers and their silly 'Godslayers' running amok all throughout the Southmount, and people wonder why they have spotted the Mountain Giants further down the slopes. Do you have any idea how much racket those buggers make?? Allll night its chanting and moaning and what have you... all I can do is trash their Stalkers and their Godslayers on occasion to slow down production. And my Scorpitron! My beloved Scorpitron! The Dark Kobolds get all the credit, but it was me! Those little thieves! He wasn't supposed to be self aware! Why do you think he went crazy? How would you feel if you became conscious of your surroundings, only to look down at yourself and see your limbs held together by patchwork and sinew? Hunger? He feels it. Does he have a stomach? Noooo! One of these days I'm going to burn that High Arcanist's workshop to the ground... Those scoundrels are up to something, but by the gods are they charming. 'Fix up the land' they said, 'start a Pygmy Goat farm' they said. You ever had Pygmy Goat milk? It's terrible."

Worked into a tiff, Phats calls out to the barkeep for a stiff drink and throws Don Juan his Blunderbuss, lest he start firing shots into the night after he's had a few and decided to perform his "gun tricks".

"Don, you can field the Senate issues. My ban has made me less than apathetic for the business of the senate. Who knew Kobold lingo was cause for ban?" Suddenly distracted by the scuffling of the tiny wood golem in the corner, Phats turns to Semaj and asks,
"Semaj... seriously.. what the hell is it doing? And can I have one? I mean, he's self aware, right? He appears to be, how did you stop it from going insane? And your Petros, I've heard stories... is he here? My golems are merely mimicking human behavior. My gemstone, Cambria, has become quite the companion, but 'she' shows no emotion whatsoever or shows any sign of awareness to the existence of its own body, or the fact that I can cut of its leg without so much more as a vacant stare."

Semaj stared blankly for a moment then squinted like he was trying to put things together he didn't understand in his head. Then he shook his head and looked at Phats.

"Hold the phone...wait did they invent the phone here yet, not the point.. you sold land to dark kobolds next to the town I LIVE in? AND you dealt with them without knowing that they are grabby little bastards that would steal anything from you for no reason at all..." Semaj was flabbergasted. His palm came up and met him in the middle of his face.

"Ok, no... whatever. Not like they can get to my workshop anyways, not like I can't deal with them. Hell I was going to suggest that the increase in wraith activity along with the constant opening and closing of dimensional rifts might have something to do with the kobolds but I guess not. But it doesn't surprise me that you got banned from the senate after or during your dealings with them. Word of advice, don't deal with kobolds." Semaj takes a big bite of the the noodles from the bowl that was set in front of him while he was ranting. A loud slurping noise accompanied his eating.

"Not bad at all. Now I am not really up and up with the senate at the moment nor have I noticed and increase in violence between the clans. Then again SFC is one of the bigger and more powerful clans. If someone attacks us we tend to retaliate and let that be the end of it. If things get out of hand and negations fail then Gordon will use the right of might to end the problem before it grows. We haven't had any major problems since Tackt disappeared." Semaj took another slurpee bite of his noodles and change the direction of his gaze to Meliae, his little forest golem.

"Meliae over there is not self aware. Nor in her current state could ever be. She is just doing what she knows to do. She is primarily a messenger and lookout golem. She pulled up the stone to get to the dirt which she can grow into and move though if she needed to leave in a hurry to get help for me. She would appear smart but its all just programed behavior. Now Petros on the other hand... he is self aware. Petros can eat, sleep, feel both emotionally and physically, as best as I could do for stone. He can dream. He is his own person. The reason for most of them going crazy, without going into much detail, is most people try to create a self aware being jammed full of knowledge from the get go. Have you ever had children? You have to start with a blank slate and teach them everything in real time and can implant knowledge later after they reach an age of comprehension. As far as I know no one else has make a self aware golem from scratch like Petros, nor have I the information to do so even written down anywhere. I find that historically humans can't be trusted with such information. He is waiting outside the city for me, encase Meliae needs to get him. Like a said earlier I was followed by someone or something on the way here. If you would like though I can have him make his way here, though there is no guarantee that if he picks up a tail he will be able to lose it." Semaj sat awaiting an answer.

Semaj looks over at Xorphitus. "Oh dear? That's quite vague considering the information already unearthed. We now know more about the kobold problem, which mind you is next door to my home, and you have the confirmed existence of at least one free thinking golem. We have yet to even get to the meat of anything else, corruption in and violence between clans and the wraith problem which I am still hurting from. I believe my friend it is still a bit too soon for oh dear."

Semaj looks over to Meliae. "Meliae, get Petros. Tell him not to be followed and to rearrange the city if need be to do so." Without a word Meliae disappears into the dirt.

"You want to meet Petros? He'll be here in a bit." Semaj finishes off his noodle bowl.

After shortly nodding to Skitz'Yie, Xorphitus addresses Semaj directly:

"Well Semaj, I have my doubts this is any smart idea to experiment with self-learning and therefore slowly building up a conscience of their own Golems. You will sooner or later lose control over said Golem, and what then? When they develop a memory and remember what you did to them and with them. What you did through them to others and their Golems? What if they are not too happy about what you did to them or others or other Golems, and what if they rise up. You think they will then accept you to remove their energy source again? I doubt it. If something lives and realizes it lives, it usally has an enhanced interest in continue living... well at least if it is not living in complete misery.

I think experimenting with self-conconsiousness on Golems is walking on a thin line and flirting with disaster, when suddenly they shrug off your control and rise up and change the face of Muelsfell once and for all!"

Xorphitus looks disturbed and eyes the entrance suspiciously.

Responding to Xorphitus, Semaj gets a bit excited in conversation.

"And I have my doubts of humanity and every other self aware creature I have met yet they all have paragons and fiends. And for almost everyone of them is it not the same thing? You are born and know nothing other that what is taught to you. You grow, learn and at some point in your life think you know it all and shed the chains of those who controlled you... parents, teachers, masters."

Semaj breaks his flow of speech with a sigh. It was obvious he was taking from experience.

"Will I lose control of Petros? Someday, yes I will. But just like a parent worries for their child I pray he will make the right choices in life. He will out live me... probably and I have worked hard over the last to years to teach him everything he needs to know to survive and make the right choices, to exist and let others do the same."

Semaj looked at the door and just now noticed the new arrival.

"Welcome. Sorry you arrived during an... exciting moment. Anywho Petros will be here soon and you can ask him all the questions you would like."

----------------------------

Meanwhile Petros makes his way through the city, putting up fake walls and moving buildings even to hide his approach. Yet something is following him.

The debate continues and Xorphitus nods acknowledging at the words Semaj speaks.

"Yes, I have to admit your words show deep wisdom and I can only support the ethical stance you ground them on. Let me put it that way, I use Golems as constructs as tools, and I can only do so because they are NOT alive and have NO conscience. Else I would be a slavemaster and abuse them, and this would be cruel and despicable of me to use a conscious creature like that. I would not like to learn the Golems I constructed and who went through many dangers and destruction because of my will actually are self aware and live through pain and know fear, joy or any other emotion.

And this is why I perhaps am so concerned about the self-aware Golems. If they are really self-aware, and if so, how they became self-aware. How they may judge on being used and how they may judge upon their non-self-aware siblings, so to speak."

He sighs a bit and leans back in his chair, contemplating the words of Semaj and the point he made.

Continuing in discussion with Xorphitus.

"So the point we make is the same. You cannot use a self aware golem as a tool. It would be wrong, it is wrong. But truthful it isn't something you should worry about unless someone here has information I am unaware of.

Petros was created by me pulling on knowledge's of technologies not of this world... or even this plane of existence for that matter. Petros is the only self aware golem created in this fashion. He himself doesn't even have the knowledge to make another like him, and I couldn't do it again with driving myself to a point of near insanity.

That aside there is at least one golem I know of that I can't determine if it is self aware or just mimicking human behavior. If it is self aware I don't know how it was done. Either way unless long term existence can bring about self awareness its not that big of a problem.

Oh and if you want to know how a self aware golem feels about its unaware brethren that is a good question for Petros."

"Self aware golems.... creating life<with an emphasis>, from no life. Not merely animating a man made object with man made power sources, but giving reasoning and creating a living being. This is something that scares me. We should not play god and introduce newly created types of life to our world, it is not natural. If this world meant to have it, it exist naturally, or from nature."

Noises can be heard from out side as walls rise up sealing off the alleyway. Petros then crawls up from under the ground.

"She was a hard one to lose." Petros commented.

Petros notices the golems around the shack as they lifeless stare into him.

"Well this must be the place. Thanks for showing the way Meliae." Petros said as Meliae disappeared back into the ground and popped back up in the shack in the same corner she left from.

Inside the shack Semaj spoke again. "Well I guess would could stay on the self-aware topic as Petros has arrived."

The door to the shack opened and Petros stuck his head in. "Hello everyone." Petros greeted as he found out his shoulders where to wide to crawl though the door. "Hold on one moment please."

Petros pulled his head from the door and removed his left arm. He then reached into the shack, setting him arm on the floor before crawling in, careful to not destroy the door frame, though he does know the door off its hinges. After getting into the shack and propping the door back up he apologizes.

"Sorry about the door. I am not very nimble. You summoned me father?" Petros said.

"Yes I did Petros. These people would like to talk to you." Semaj responded. "So ask away guys."

Scratching his chin thoughtfully, Xorphitus turns his attention towards the huge golem who squeezed through the door and had troubles in the too small room. Nodding Petros welcome, he rises to his feet again and walks a few steps towards Petros and adresses him:

"Welcome Petros, I am Xorphitus, Magus of the Knights of Havoc. We discussed a bit about you and your kind, the golems that are called self-aware. So Semaj suggested not to keep it to an academic level and exchanging theories and hypothesis, but to ask you directly. This may sound a bit rude to you at first, but I and many other Magus have our doubts on how a Golem can learn, think, feel, and finally become independant. This is so very unlike the Golems I have constructed, Golems I have seen. I am astounded about you speaking for yourself already. Again, please do not feel offended, you are a Golem but yet are so very different from a Golem how I know it... So I wonder, first of all... did it hurt when you just detached your arm there..."

He points vaguely towards the dislocated left arm.

"Hurt?" Petros pondered for a moment. "I guess it isn't conformable upon the initial detachment but there is no lingering sensation of what I would call 'pain'. Sometimes when an arm or leg needs to be detached for repair or replacement I do experience what you call Phantom limb syndrome but even the painful cases of that aren't that bad. Being made of stone I can only physically feel so much."

His words rolled out of him at a constant but slightly slower pace that your average speaker. Petros pause again after this. He realizes he over explained a simple answer to a simple question. "The short answer is yes it 'hurt' but for a stone golem pain is almost just another sensation."

Semaj simple sat back and let Petros talk as he would.
