[OOC: Intended really as a one off in reaction to some earlier Senate action. Not intended to be really serious. }

A couple of Journeymen level students whispering heatedly together outside the main bakery door, a newspaper in the hand of the young male, "No, you tell her Lissa, I just got off the hook for burning that batch of gingersnaps" says Rasgon, the white overtunic of a baker hanging loosely on his youthfully slender frame, despite the two diagonal slashes of blue on his right arm. "You're about to sit your Masters exams, she's not gonna make you copy recipes down if she gets upset. Besides, I gotta get back to making tissue dough in the chilled wing."

"Not recipes, but some sort of cantrips or some other apprentice level trivia before I start my exams." his companion, a short, slightly chunky brunette wearing the plain brown overtunic of a Magi apprentice, detailed with the three diagonal red slashes on the right arm denoting her senior journeyman's status, says with an eyeroll, "Fine! Whatever you wimp! Get back to your dough, but you owe me big for this. At least a cake or two Rasgon. No denying that you can make good ones either." so saying, she takes the newspaper from him and waves him off. "Shoo! Back to work with you," she says with a laugh. "Thanks Lissa. Let me know how it works out!" he replies while moving off at a trot. She shakes her head in amusement and turns to head into the main bakery.

I edited for spelling, color and flavor. No pun intended

Lissa, newspaper firmly grasped in one hand, approaches the nearest cluster of activity on the Bakery floor, waving her hand to catch the eye of the Journeyman currently supervising newly enrolled Bakery students washing up dishes. "Where is the Mistress?" she calls. The called reply, "Check near the ovens. Trian! What did I tell you about making sure whisks and other utensils are properly cleaned? Why..." his voice trails off in the din of an active bakery as she moves closer to the wall of ovens.

"Mistress! Mistress Halftea!" Lissa calls as she rounds a table and finally spots her teacher, conversing with her Baking assistant. "There's something you need to see!"

Halftea waves distractedly at Lissa, and continues her current conversation"...and make sure this batch gets completed in time for the Stonebreaker family reunion tomorrow. Should be an easy delivery, handle it however you deem best." Immediate business completed, she then turns to Lissa, "Now whatever are you going on about?"

"Mistress, perhaps you should read it yourself", so saying she hands over the newspaper she is carrying, a copy of the Muelsfell Tattler. "It is the report on recent Senate business."

Eyebrows raised in question, Halftea accepts the newspaper and turns to the appropriate section. Scanning through the Senate listings, she mutters to herself, "...Saurian bounties, such pesky creatures... that can't be it... More welcome resolutions... Nothing there..."Free Ice Cre-." She stops abruptly and rereads the passage. "Who had the bright idea to have the Sisterhood delivering Ice Cream? Drackmore of Cererus? I bet this was his idea of a practical joke"

Shaking her head to herself, she looks back up at Lissa, "I knew I should have been paying better attention to the Senate, that certainly explains the recent influx of resources to the Clan, I was going to ask the Loru what that was about. Thanks Lissa. Walk with me to my office?" she asked. Lissa nods and the head out of the Bakery to the main workshop.

Halftea walks companionably towards her workshop with Lissa by her side engaging in questions about her students progress in her mage studies. After arrival, she sits at her desk to draft a letter explaining the Senate requirement and annotating the increase in funds and resources assigned to pay for it while Lissa waits in one of the chairs in the room.

After a few minutes scratching furiously with quill on the parchment, she completes the draft, waving a hand over it and muttering a simple cantrip to dry the ink. She then beckons her student forward, "Now I need you to make a copy of this, and prepare to deliver it to Pegga please."

Lissa steps up to the table, selects a clean piece of parchment, and produces a small lens from a belt pouch. Placing the completed parchment to her left, and the blank on the right, she holds the lens in her left hand. Reciting a more complicated series of cantrips, and making some hand signs with her right, a ghost-like impression of the writing rises up from the first page shrinking as it goes and clings like a film to the lens. Moving it over the blank parchment, she executes a similar procedure, this time resulting in the ghost like writing leaving the lens, and expanding to the proper size. Once on the parchment, it darkens to resemble the original. Grinning triumphantly, Lissa steps back, wiping a small bead of sweat from her brow.

Examining the copy, Halftea exclaims, "Very nice Lissa! Beautiful work. While it would have been more energy efficient to hand copy it, for this occasion this is appropriate. Remember however, relying overmuch on magic is a mistake many Magi make. Go take a clay golem out of the depot and run this down to Jaaron and Loru Pegga will you?" Halftea says with a smile as she takes the copy and seals it in a messenger pouch, then hands it to the senior journeywoman. "Oh and be a dear and stop by Harbringer Farms for another shipment of tea on your way back. They'll be expecting you."

"Of course Mistress!", says Lissa as she takes the messenger pouch. "I'll set out right away!" Rendering a quick curtsy, she runs off toward the living quarters to gather some personal items for her journey.

"Ah, the energy of youth." Halftea says as she watches Lissa scurry out. Taking the original, she seals it in another messenger envelope, marked it for pigeon delivery and places it in the outgoing correspondence basket. Never hurts to be redundant with these things she thinks to herself.

Lissa ran to her room Yes! Solo road trip! she thinks giddily to herself. Throwing some things into a personal bag, she throws that over her shoulder and the messenger bag securely fastened to her belt, she heads of to update her friend Rasgon in the chilled annex.

"Rasgon!" she quickly goes to her friends side, where he looks up from his current activity of folding tissue thin pieces of dough on what appears to be pillows. "Guess what? I get to go to Jaaron! You know you're jealous of me being a ma-age" she sings.

"What? And give up four walls and a roof for the company of random forest creatures and other prickly mages? No thanks! You can keep it.", he replies dryly. "Besides, you get to eat some yummy hardtack or grubs or something while I will just have to polish of some of what ain't up to hersselfs standards."

"Like anyone would be able to tell. Where do you keep it all?" she says while poking him playfully. Swatting at her hand, he wiggles his his fingers, "I just magically transfer it to you of course. Who says magic has to be flashy? Bippity Bop!" Sticking her tongue out at him, she says, "Meanie!", but halfheartedly. One gets the feeling this is familiar ground between the two of them.

Rasgon smiles, then soberly replies "Seriously though, be careful. How are you traveling?"

"With a Clay. She gave me a side trip for more tea on the way back. And I'll be careful 'Mom', I know its a long way. Have those cakes ready for me when I get back okay? I want chocolate!" she gives him a quick hug and runs back out, "Still need to grab some yummy grubs for the road!"

....

Packed and provisioned, Lissa heads out on her way to Jaaron less than an hour later. A spring in her step and cheerfulness radiating off her, not noticing the slight form in white watching from the vicinity of the Bakery. Be safe cousin, he thinks to himself as he watches her set off in the company of an armoured golem.

After an arduous journey, Lissa finally arrives at the seat of ADV power in Jaaron. After a quick check that the golem isn't in need of repairs, she hurried down the busy city streets to the outer rim of the town, across the well adorned moat bridge and to the abode of the Loru.

She had visited several times, but never with a message to the Loru herself. "I just hope she's in a pleasant mood", Lissa thought as she strolled into the inner courtyard, her feet sounding out on the cobbled path. Winding trails lead to one side or another, to various functions that were contained in the complex. One of the corner lookout towers was slightly smoking, with icicles dripping from the side that wasn't smoldering.

Gwendolyn. For some reason, that dragon and the Loru had never seen eye-to-eye. Well, given that the physical size was that different to begin with. From Lissa's view in the middle of the yard, she could see the stack of scales from the dragon. Some left during Gwen's raids; others taken by force. She shuddered. A couple were fresh with blood, and stained with copper shrapnel. This was the woman that was leading the clan?

After a quick check with the guards, Lissa was let into the inner housing area. In the middle of all the busy city life outside, it was always surprising that the din couldn't be heard from here. "Magic" had been her first utterance during that initial visit. A cuff behind the ears had been the reward.

"Magic nothin", from the instructor for that trip. "It's all in the way that the forces from the city are redirected with the buildings and towers." Afterwords, it was apparent the details that had been incorporated. Where one expected a straight line on the buildings and walls, there was a curve. Where a smooth arc was expected was a harsh line. During one of her mid-level classes, they'd actually worked on a new addition to the storage facilities, and the numbers before her had danced their jig. She could see in the architecture her own hand here and there.

Lissa sat down in one of the chairs set up in the waiting room. She noticed the plate of fresh cookies on the table in the middle, wondering how they could possibly still be warm. Typically, the bakery of the Loru wasn't in the mood for cookies. "That could be a bad sign" she thought, and was suddenly startled by the appearance of the Loru's secretary, almost out of thin air. She managed not to scream.

The moldering, ancient flesh golem motioned towards the door, "The Loru has been expecting you."

With slight trepidation, Lissa stepped into the Loru's office. Various watercolor prints motioned to her from the walls. Magic might not be what built the buildings, but it decorated a lot of it, with the animals and plants and... things... having a life of their own among the bookcases and furniture. And in the middle of it all, was the Loru.

Pegga.

And a plate containing the uneaten half of a fowl of some sort that Lissa didn't recognize immediately. Until she noticed the pigeon's message pack, half incinerated sitting next to it. Opened.

"Hungry?" grinned Pegga, picking up a tea cup that looked so thin as if it was made out of paper. Where the Loru got her tea sets, nobody knew. But to receive one as a gift was one of the highest honors in the clan.

Lissa gulped loudly, which drew a scornful look from the head of the clan.

"Oh, come now. Do you think I would cook a pigeon?" she sighed. "Really," as she sipped again from the tea cup.

The Loru looked again at Lissa, with a bit more compassion. "It's not my fault the silly bird got between Gwen and I. And waste not, want not." The plate was pushed to the side of the table.

Lissa laid her now redundant copy of the message from Halftea in the Loru's hands. "Mistress Halftea requests advice on what to do with..."

The old woman was already engrossed in the letter. "Ah..." she said finally. "My copy was half burned, you see. This makes a lot more sense. Reginald!"

The shambling mound of enchanted meat reentered the room. "You rang?"

The Loru stood up and gently held the old golem's hand. "Yes, Reginald. If you don't mind, please go round to the bakery and tell them that the elephants have been given a stay of execution. And please cancel the order for the metal boxes. I seem to have misread Halftea's letter."

The golem simply nodded, and closed the door behind him.

"Now," said Pegga. "Let's think about ice cream, shall we?"

The next day, Lissa's stomach felt a lot better. One would think that the decay of the Loru's secretary would be the worst thing surrounding the head of the clan. But after seeing the recipes, a rotting, rambling corpse was in the wedded-bliss range.

There was the Bear Eyeball Stew with Koala Gall Stones. "Good for the liver" she'd said with a wink. Minced Wombat with Goose Squeezings. "Don't think I've had that one," Pegga had mumbled, tossing it into a separate pile. "Ah, here we are!" as she stood straight.

Lissa looked down into her messenger bag. Three copied cards lay in it, radiating up from inside it seemed. Three ice cream recipes from the Loru's secret stash. And in her wallet was more money than she could have imagined possible from the small bag that the Loru had conjured from the vast storage facility. Money that she now had to use to buy the ingredients to make all the ice cream for the 1st Free Ice Cream Day.

"And most likely the last free ice cream day, too," she mentioned to herself as she packed up the last of her things from the guest quarters. Lissa headed back out to the local golem depot, daunted by the task laid upon her, but confident with the knowledge that the Loru herself had entrusted her with this.

"It'll be okay", Lissa said. "I can do this." And she headed out into the wild.

From up on the watchtower, already being repaired, Pegga gave a slight grin before launching a pigeon from the small steam driven catapult installed to give the poor bird some initial air speed. The avian relay headed quickly towards its deceased kin's origin, a small recipe card tucked into the message pouch.

"That was really rather mean, even for you" came a chilly voice from the steaming lair far below.

Pegga grinned, and whistled forward the copper golem being given a final polish. She had market orders to fill.

"Quiet you. The girl would have to learn at some point in time, and why not now before she sits for her exams? Now hold still, this is going to hurt."

(OOC: I'm getting back to this I swear! Just have to finish RW obligations taking up my time first... and back. :) )

Lissa whistled distractedly to herself as she approached the main gates of Harbringer Farms, Clay golem in tow. The plans and projects required to begin a full ice cream production shop dancing half-visualized in her head, she only half paid attention to the group of people and loaded animals outside the main gates. They were gathered around the wildly gesticulating and yelling figures of two men, one dressed in the traditional robes of a Rildesjan Caravan Master and the other sporting the livery of a Senior Factor of the Farms.

Not noticing the glances, mutterings and pointed fingers of members of the crowd as she moved around the group, she headed into the main gates when a shouts from behind finally caught her attention. "Miss! Excuse me Miss!", "Hey! You with the golem!"

Startled, she stopped and turned around, finally registering the crowd. And noticing they were all looking at her. "Umm. May I help you?" she nervously replied, unsettled by the way she was jarringly brought back to focus on the present.

"Miss! Are you by chance here to pick up an order?" the Farm factor asked, moving towards Lissa. A faint look of hope showed on his face as hw awaited a reply. hearing this, the Caravan Master snorted and rolled his eyes, exclaiming "Pick up? The magus arrived with a clay golem, of course she's here for an order! The only important question is which order."

Turning directly to Lissa, he asked with a small bow and flourish, "Esteemed Magus, might we avail upon you to help solve our little quandary? It seems my caravan was engaged to transport a shipment to a Magus in Ulvania, in replacement of prior arrangements where a representative would pick up the products. This fine representative of the Farms insists upon a signed release from said representative before releasing us upon our way. It would hearten my poor humble soul should you be the answer to our insoluble dilemma."

"Flowery prattle..." the Factor was hear to mutter

Hiding a small grin behind her hand, Lissa returned the bow while answering, "I would be honored to attempt to resolve the issue kind sirs. I was sent by my Mistress, Halftea of Darghelm, to pick up a shipment of supplies. If that information can help resolve your dilemma, then it is my honor to be able to provide it." Rildesjaners formal speech can be so poetic, she thought to as an aside to herself.
