about how many gems are worth 1000 iron?

Huh...tough call, it seems pretty arbitrary. I think I picked up one of your offers for 50 gems to 1000 iron, but it's not something I'd do regularly because for me gems are way harder to get ahold of and I burn through them pretty fast. But depending what monster you fight you end up with a gem surplus pretty fast. So...to cut this short, I have no idea. My suggestion would be to find a monster near you that drops gems and get them that way if possible.

Gems and glass are some of the most common drops from monsters. And gems only get used to make certain eyes and lenses, or used as material to transmute something in alchemy.

Iron, on the other hand, most everyone wants to upgrade clan buildings, so it is fairly often in short supply. Market being what it has been lately... not sure. Best thing you could do is try different ratios to see what people will buy. If people don't buy it, you know you went too high.
