Laidan needed something to get his mind off the less-than-stellar end to the previous evening, so he got up early and headed off on clan business. A stop at the Hereti-corp HQ told him they were progressing as expected (extremely slowly, but making headway at least) on their next research, and that OTAKU was not the only victim of a university magus' aggression. He headed to his subordinate Havoc's workshop to inspect the damage and offer assistance.
Meanwhile, Kaelas, on arrival at Laidan's workshop finds a golem made entirely of bone (which seems unusual for Laidan, this isn't his standard gatekeeper) which also seems to have personal space issues, as it rises from the ground mere inches from the visitors face.
"State your business" it demands in a deep monotone. |

Kaelas's hand twitches, as if wishing to grasp something about the size of a sword hilt but he forces himself to not overreact. Yet.
"I wish to speak with Magus Laidan- or Magus Yamiko, if she's present," he says as calmly as he can. Just in case 'yet' comes faster than expected, he causally edges his clan robe off his shoulder to make sure his arm's movement is unrestricted. Last Edited: Feb 27, 2011, 11:04 pm |

Kaelas glances at the crest on his clan robe and smirks a little. His golems are complex and advanced enough that they would have identified the crest instead of having to ask. Of course, they'd ask anyway, given that anyone can wear a robe.

| "Master Laidan is currently unavailable. The magus known as Yamiko is unknown to this unit. If you would like to make an appointment with Master Laidan please inquire at the gates." The golem and Kaelas are only 50 feet from the gates now, is this thing here just to delay and annoy visitors? Or perhaps it is some sort of disposable pre-guard? It is fairly heavily armored for a smallish bone golem... |

Unavailable, hmmm? Very well- it shouldn't take long to 'make an appointment' and it might start things moving. Mind you, if things don't move fast enough, he'll have to be more direct but such is life. "Well enough," Kaelas says calmly, eyes glittering faintly.
That said, he moves towards the gates- careful to leave some space between him and the bone golem as he does so. |

| The golem mirrors his movement, keeping itself between Kaelas and the gates, though it does not initiate any contact with the mage. "Visitors are not currently permitted. If you would like more information please inquire within." The golem states in a completely contradictory manner. |

| "Unable to comply with this request." As the golem moves around Kaelas can see the familiar OASIS stamp in various places on its form, but not the colored slashes he is used to seeing beneath the stamp which indicate one of Laidans personal golems. |

Kaelas considers this for a moment- it's possible this is just a generic guard that Laidan had to use because something happened to his personal guard. Which means Laiden wouldn't be very familiar with it and might not have noticed that it appears to be malfunctioning.
Or it could be doing this purposely. In which case... "As the head of an allied Clan, I am... requesting that you move out of the way so that I can begin diplomatic proceedings with Magus Laidan. To do so, I require you to allow me to approach the gate. Now."

"Bite me," Kaelas says cheerfully- hey, it might be useless or even harmful to his efforts, but damnit, he's getting to do something that at least feels like progress.
He shifts as if to pull something out from under his cloak with his left hand- and swings at the golem's left knee with a jagged edge, slightly curved blade in his right that he'd evidently conjured somehow.
In the back of Kaelas's mind, he's actually glad the bone golem was wearing more armor than normal. He's not as strong as a golem, of course, but he is faster than most of them. Bones, however, can match his speed- if they're not so weighed down by armor. Still, he prefers fighting clays or metals. Well, stone would be easy too, but who actually makes those anymore? |

| The golem attempts to evade, but the combination of its conflicting programming and the weight of the armor slow it down enough that it cannot get completely out of the way. It takes most of the force of the hit in its leg, though the armor absorbs a lot of the damage and the golem still seems fairly mobile as it lunges at the mage. |

Kaelas dances backwards, having expected such a reaction. Thanks to the armor, he's a hair or two faster and more mobile than the golem. Conversely, the armor is, well, armor. The only real advantage he has is that the golem is just a regular golem- and seemingly badly programed at that.
Ducking under the lunge, Kaelas tries to rush past the golem while taking another slice out of the golem's leg. Briefly, he wishes he could just use Craft to incinerate the blasted thing. |

| The golem manages to stay between Kaelas and the walls, and the mage feels the chill of the dagger as the guard manages a minor slice to his arm. |

Kaelas pulls back, reassessing the golem. He hadn't even noticed that it was armed earlier. Careless. After shaking his arm, he gently probes the wound. Not getting any feedback, he uses healing Craft to seal the wound and stop the bleeding.
"Blasted magic," he grunts, then stills for a half-second. "...I'm an idiot." Sure, he can't use Craft to attack the golem, or even to protect himself without risking the two magics interacting violently. But that doesn't mean he can't use Muelsfellian magic. "Yami would slap me..."
Kaelas sets himself into a new stance, one designed more for evasion than attack as he readies himself. This spell doesn't last long, but it does take a few moments to ready so he needs to buy some time. |

| The golem continues offensively, its limited programming set thoroughly to Attack until (target-movement=0). Its combat programming seems generally unaffected by whatever logic trouble it was having earlier, and Kaelas will have to stay on his toes to avoid the blade for long. |

Luckily, avoiding without attacking is much easier than trying to do both. Still, his arm is starting to get a little numb and sore from having to block the bone golem's powerful attacks by the time he finishes calling up the needed magic to power his spell.
Blocking one last time to occupy the golem's blade, Kaelas thrusts his open palm at the golem's waist. A massive concussive force slams into the golem and sends it flying backwards. Amusingly, the legs remain exactly where they were for a few seconds before slowly tipping over onto the ground.
Smirking, Kaelas stands up and- "For for the love of Darkness," he growls. The golem has landed directly between the gate posts. |

| The gate swings wide and a hulking adamantine golem, fully armored, spewing steam, and packing some much heavier weaponry, strides forth. "The willful destruction of Hereti-Corp property will not be permitted." The golem stares at Kaelas for a moment, Laidans colors clear on its chest below the HC stamp. "Magus Kaelas of Magisterius University, you have 15 seconds to retreat. Should you choose not to retreat Hereti-Corp and its associates will not be responsible for your safety." "Tell that to the freaking golem," Kaelas snaps. An addy. Based on his sparring matches with his own addy golems, it won't be able to touch him unless he's stupid or careless. Unless Hertei has access to a better power source, he realizes absently. It's fairly irrelevant though- adamantine is simply too tough for him to even mark with his blade and he can't expect to be able to do enough damage with attack spells to disable it.
His blade vanishes from wherever it had come from as Kaelas unfurls his wings from under his cloak. "Tell Magus Laidan that he needs to work on his guard's programing. And tell him to send a messenger!" With that, he hurls himself into the air.Last Edited: Feb 27, 2011, 11:14 pm |
