Nanashi climbed slowly up the steep incline between the stunted, twisted trees. Cold winds gusted fretfully, clear skies and the winter sun doing little to warm the rise. Clearing the treeline, he reached the sparse grass at the top of a high cliff. Looking out at the land before him, he was left to reminisce about bygone days.
Absently touching some long faded scars, he ruefully remembered the old wars. He could almost hear the music, ladies dancing before his eyes at parties long since ended.
He sighed missing that carnival of days.

Noting the forlorn look in Nanashi's eyes and posture, Joachim walks up to him and places a reassuring hand upon his shoulder.
"The world, for the time being, has gone on to other distractions. New technological discoveries, new experimental forms of government, and the regression of beasts back to their home environments have made us no longer neccessary or wanted in the eyes of most. But be strong brother...and be prepared. Catastrophe is inevitable in a world such as ours. In times of great darkness, they will look to us again for salvation."

Nanashi gave a half smile. "That is ever the way of carnivals, is it not? They come to enliven our days, only to fade away with the dawn." He gazed off into the distance. "But there may come a day that they will return."
He turned and looked at Joachim, with a smile, time-worn but still impish. "We'll just have to stay around to greet them, won't we?" |

Joachim grins and nods his head.
"Of course we will."
"Beautiful scenery, relatively mild weather in the lowlands, Sissel's pastries, Caerula's ice cream, Asylum residents intown shenanigans, mountain kobold antics, the occasional hilariously out of control experiments from both our clans, and hot and cold running water. I wouldn't want to leave." :)
