New avatars are live. :)
You can choose your avatar on your profile page and can change it any time you like. There are a total of twenty(20) avatars, ten for guys and ten for girls. A small selection to be sure, but I'll be adding more as time goes on (including a set that will be available only to Premium members).
Full-sized vatars will show up when people view your workshop or profile, medium sized ones will show up here in the forums, and small ones will appear on the search pages.

On the current server, it's unfortunately not a possibility at all. Should Muelsfell move to a new server, then it might be an option.

If your magus is a male character, you'll only have access to the male ones. Likewise, if you're a female character, you'll only have access to female ones.

There's only ten avatar choices per character right now so there's going to be a lot of duplication. Obviously missing are older looking characters as well as more evil ones, those with glasses or facial hair, etc. As time goes on, I plan to have various artists add more options. :)

This might be a good chance for a perk for the top ten dark/light aligned magi as well as the top 25 scoring magi. Give them avatars that only they can use that correspond to their achievement.
If i'm not mistaken, this is written largely in java, is it not? If it is, then it shouldnt take more than a simple if statement or two to check for eligibility for these avatars.

The game is written predominately with PHP, but some things are done with AJAX (the slot machine) and Java (countdown timers). But in any case, yes, it wouldn't be too hard to add alignment-based avatars.
Well, we could email it in or something.
Sooner or later, I'll run a contest or something for avatars and/or creature art, with Premium tickets as prizes. That won't be anytime soon though. :)

Three new avatars are now live for Premium members.
These are a bit more stern than the previous set, so hopefully should provide just a touch more variety for those of an evil bent.

Clever though it may be, that bug was squished and you've been granted a shiny new "blank" version. :)
Also, there's a smiley face to bring the total to an even 5 premium avatars until I schedule some more avatars.
