Wow, they are brutal right now. I attacked an iron golem with my copper, I took:

55 damage from his golem
273 from the spikes!!!

there's no way they should be doing 5 times the damage of the golem.

If one considers a level 15 wall to be a level 15 MOB ... pretty weak.

I don't know the mechanics, but a Nerf Golem wouldn't take much damage from spikes -- the harder YOU hit, the worse you hurt.

I want to say he's talking about the golem weapon of spikes, not the spikes on the wall. Not sure, but we've had a run in with a spiked golem. It was not pretty.

I'm pretty sure it was the spikes from the wall, but not certain.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he's talking about pie. I think apple pie, but perhaps pecan.

Could be. But, an attack report I saw previously had the golem doing 2 points of damage with fists, then 35 points with some spikes. Multiple times. Ouch. Maybe it was just a need to better protect from piercing weapons, but it was still cringe worthy.

Maybe spiked apple pie. Mmmm... toasty.

Spikes were attacking as a 0-0-8 (IMP-SLI-PUN) weapon; I've tweaked them down to a 0-0-5 weapon. We'll see if that's a little better.

The amount they hit back is directly related to the number of times that the attacker hits, btw.

Today's combat tweaks also addresses a spike issue that's been bothering me:

Previously, spikes would still damage your golem even if you were at range. I've dropped that; you'll only get hit by spikes if you're at melee with the defender.

so should spikes be hitting the attacker one more time than the attacker hits the wall? That's what I've seen in my...1 attack.

I have seen that also. On several occasions it's said something along the lines of my golem hitting the wall x times, and the spikes hitting back x+1 times

Maybe you get spikified once on the way in, then it's once per attack after that? :)

Oooh! Could there maybe be another quest to get upgraded spikeys that would shoot at the bad guys? More quests! Yay!

tariana, please try not to double post. that is what edits are for. and i doubt that there will be a ranged spike quest item (RTS guard towers aside, i doubt it is going to happen). there might come to be a spell though. anti-arrow fireball or flamewall anyone??

Sorry! I'm used to threaded convos so stuff is next to what it's replying to, which makes it totally silly to glomp everything together.

Nanashi, please try to capitalize. That is what the shift key is for.

EDIT: That last bit was a little harsher than I meant it to be. My point was it's a style preference. I (usually) don't say anything when people don't use capitals and punctuation and spelling, even though that bugs me, because that's their style. It doesn't hurt anything if I reply to two different posts separately even if it isn't how you'd do it, so why would you make an issue?

Ranged golems (even on hangback) are stupid, they'll try to melee the other golem regardless of what you do. As a result, they get spiked anyway.

Clarification: They still hangback, but they still try to get in melee anywhere from 1-8 times depending on luck. Those times are when you get spiked!

Meaning on average they still only take 2 rounds of spike damage...or combat damage at all unless they're up against a ranged defender...I wish spiked chain range worked:P
