So over the past week or so I've noticed that not once have I ever attacked a golem from outside of its reach. This isn't too surprising, except that I'm almost always using a spiked chain, and that 30' reach oughta kick in sometimes.

So I put it up against the practice dummy and got numerous results of my golem readying it's spiked chain from 20 or so feet away, but not attacking because it's out of range.

Then just for fun I took the chain off and tested a level 4 iron without the chain. It DID use reach when appropriate.

Thus, I'm pretty convinced that reach isn't registering when a golem is equipped with a melee weapon. This might be a problem specific to the spiked chain, as I don't have access to any other melee reach weapons to test it on.

I believe the halberd has the same problem it doesn't seem to increase reach at all.

Could be connected to that yet-to-be-implemented feature "Only use weapon, I don't care what the energy cost is" for battle strategy.

Having the same issue here, too, with the Halberd.

Peripherally relevant: are reach weapons supposed to be a flat reach statistic, or golem's normal reach +X?

pretty sure it's normal reach +weapon's reach.

While looking into weapons, should consider balancing the damage, cause when a lvl 1 bone golem with a spiked chain can hit for 94 damage in one critical hit, not sure it's really balanced.

You'd think, but that damage is in exchange for 7 other hits from the fists. Really all the chain does is condense many of a golem's attacks into a few, increases the likelyhood that they will hit, and *theoreticaly* gives them a big reach bonus.

Also, just a bit ago I had a level 4 bone with a spiked chain start combat. The first line included "Both combatants are out of range with about 50 feet between them." Previously, whenever one of my golems were within range they would at least ready the iron chain, but not attack. (lvl 4 reach of 16 + 35 from spiked chain should equal 51' range) Just noting it in case there's something preventing ranged attacks in the first round of combat.

Spiked Chains are powerful but the other clans higher lvl items should also be quite powerful too
