One would wish that Stone Golems had something 'extra' to what they currently have got. Flesh golems are fast and cheap. Bones are vicious and cheap as well as desert resistant. Woods have bonuses with Ranged weaponry in the woods. Clays carry a heck of a lot and can heal in swamps/rain, also they can move better in swamps than other golems Irons have excelent resistances and Copper does fire, and resists it, also is as fast as Bones. Bronze does Ice and resists it. Brass does Sonic and resists it. Glass is fast, slashy and generally weak. Adamantines are Adamantines, enough said. But Stone Golems have very little to offer, compared to Irons above them they are barely faster (2ft) and are out done in every other category. Compared to the Clays, they Hold less, hit for a little more, and resist Fire and Piercing damage a little better but have none of the special abilities. Thus they are often ignored and prejudiced against. If they offered a defensive/offensive bonus in mountainous or perhaps urban (stone buildings and all). Or perhaps a mobility bonus? Or perhaps a bonus could be applied to the Barricade if they are present, mayhaps it would take less damage? Either way, Stone Golems are often seen as a poor man's Iron Golem. Especially as the only unique bonus they could get requires that you be in a Spell Clan. I still have very little idea what Expedient Sandstone does, so I am not sure it is a 'good' bonus or a wonky one. |

I agree the stone golems are rather underpowered compared to the others. I originally developed stone golems cause noone else in the clan did and I thought the easter island statue headed golems were kind of cool looking. So I thought I'd fill a little niche there. But it turns out there is a good reason that noone bothered with them... they are almost completely useless. Possible Buffs: Increase their speed to something useful. Even 15 would let them move as fast as clays. or Increase their damage a bit. Dunno about you but I think they could certainly hurt a bit more. or Give them a healing ability in the mountains, similiar to clays. All stone parts heal a bit depending on level. or Give them a natural hard hitting ranged attack. A stone golem at range will do an earthquake attack causing sonic damage. Golem needs to be made completely of stone. Anti-archer golem maybe? or Reduce their ECL/motivation costs. Just a few thoughts :P Will edit in some more ideas if I have any later.Last Edited: Jan 19, 2009, 5:03 am |

Heck, mayhaps a 'destroy' bonus if one of thier parts/limbs is destroyed it would inflict an 'attack' on the the golem that attacked it. Mayhaps something based on the Level of the Golem? And perhaps the terrain? |

I do have a pending suggestion thread that specifically addresses the issue of golem uniqueness, that seems to have had no one comment on it. If you happen to read it, even if you think the idea is total garbage, please comment. The stone could get a camouflage effect while in urban or mountainous terrain that makes it harder to land a solid hit. Amongst other effects that are golem-specific. http://www.muelsfell.com/world/map_community.php?msg= 22307 Edit 1: Made Clickable.Last Edited: Jan 19, 2009, 4:43 am |
